A couple of years ago I bought a very ratty Charge Plug with the intention of collecting a bunch of used parts and building a cheap about town hipster fixie sled. As with all the best plans it's turned out a bit more than a cheap bike. I had it back from the powder coaters, built it up, and its bloody lovely. But I can't live with the gear inches. 48:18 on a freewheel is a bit too steep for my glass back and exploding knees.
So before I settle on a nice freewheel I thought I'd buy a couple of budget free wheels and decide on a slightly more liveable ratio. Popped into my LBS on Thursday to see if they can pop a couple of Sturmey Archer freewheels on their next order, not expecting them until the new year. They've only just put an order in with the distributor, not enough in the basket to get free shipping, so they add stuff in to get over the minimum order. Monday or Tuesday they say. OK, great.
As of this morning I've had to swap some shifts which means I'm not going to be able to pick them up until after New Year. LBS is closed over Xmas / New Year. They turn up this afternoon in a delivery to the LBS, so instead of leaving me without until the New Year they deliver them this evening on their way home. Including a new chain and a freewheel tool.
I haven't even paid for them yet.
Name and shame. We won’t tolerate good service in this country!
Mark & Phil at Coombes Cycles, Hereford. Guilty as charged.

Hipster bike.
Ok, just jealous.
