I'm more interested in freeride/DH than XC, but for the cinematography you can't beat Where The Trail Ends IMO, also love Strength In Numbers.

Worst film ever. Not helpful, but true.

There were some documentaries I saw on Netflix, Ride the Divide sounds like it could do the trick - most of the movies like the Collective, Sprung, New World Disorder series etc focus on the gravity aspect of the sport as it's the most visually impressive.

Weirdly they were showing Ride the Divide on the big screens in PC World yesterday. Maybe the 10 minutes I watched was just a particularily dull bit, who knows.

Anyway. VAST. Cheap on itunes too. Doesn't have the most dazzling riding, but for me it's got the best grip on what bike riding actually feels like. Perfect tunes though, red travellliiinnnnnnn socks. Even has a watchable dirtjump scene which is a first.

Home is great too and might be right up your xc street. The sequel Find is absolutely dire though (how do you get Hans Rey, Steve Peat and Danny Macaskill, in Scotland, with a helicopter, and make something so dull? And that's the highlight)

For the big stars-riding-like-stars features, start with Seasons. Young Stevie Smith and his mum 😀

Home, because I can associate with the riding on there. I went to the GFT to see some American film, I think it was the one after find, was about the likes of Stevie smith jumping over trains. Pure sh1te.

Edit - the sweary northerners films are better than all that US guff.

The sprung series were good, but not really xc.

Chainspotting is awesome need to get that on DVD somehow

I like the Collective, especially the last segment in b+w, aspirational rather than utterly out of reach riding, great music throughout, great.

Just watched Dirt on YouTube. Brought back memories as I remember buying the original mbuk with a free VHS tape of the movie. Still have it somewhere.

Kranked was a good one too iirc, and kranked 3 sticks in my mind for some reason.

Apart from the privileged cyclists crying about how they were missing home, I thought Ride the Divide was ok, I also enjoyed Lifecycles, probably more for the scenery than the riding and because it's on Youtube. As my standards are obviously lower than the usual STWer, what is Reveal the Path like? I heard that was crap, is it?

That's From The Inside Out. Train gaps are like drum solos, you can just about get away with one but 2 is always too many.

Roam is the one I keep coming back to. I like Home too, but that's because of where it was filmed.
