Quite like the idea of a clock.

I never know what time it is on a ride.

Looks quite neat. But I'd rather have a digital clock.

I rather like the clock ones, would be good for my commute for those "hmm have i got time to go through the woods" mornings.

Yep I'm a fan of the weird and wonderful top caps myself. 👍

Waiting for a couple off eBay right now with custom words etched on to them..... Of a sweary but motivational nature! Lol

.... to look at when I am temped to get off and walk that climb infront of me. 😃

I can't imagine anything more hateful than a clock staring at me in the face for the entirety of the ride, reminding me when it will end.

I'd say that shows a lack of imagination.

i'd say that shows a lack of trail focus skills

Not the 'fun' reply, but wouldnt that be an ideal place for a gps tracker?

assuming that it's USB rechargeable, you'd only need a fairly simple device that blinked an LED whilst recording your bike ride for Strava.

might not replace a garmin, but if you're already committed to regular (inexpensive) cycle computers...

though, if it could access gps data, an indication of altitude would be way cool.

Cracking idea greatbeardedone, an unobtrusive GPS tracker attached to the bike would be spot on.

Just buy a cheap Casio and strap it to the handlebars?

...GPS? Stick on a tiny OLED display and it can give you turn-by-turn navigation. Connect via bluetooth to your phone, so the phone does most of the hard work and you can make it as cheap as chips. I would think the BOM could be $10 or less?

There's only one Correct modification for a top cap, and that's a bottle opener for your trail beer.

I've had a singletrack branded one of those for a few years now.  Really useful for commuting or when rides are time limited.  So basically every ride I do now I have kids.

Loads more easy to see a clear analogue face at a glance, and know whether I'll be back in time.

@cyclistm

thanks!

afaik, the gps tracking is a huge drain on your cycle computers battery.

so I figured that it's best to keep it separate from the speed/ cadence/ hrm functions.

personally, I like to have a cycle computer on the handlebars, so I don't have to re-focus my attention too far from the trail.

So, anything mounted on the  top-cap is for optional stuff like strava moments.

you could sync  some kind of stem-cap gizmo to your smartphone but that would involve Bluetooth connectivity and potentially more ££ and shorter battery life.
