Magura MT4 hose is connected to caliper by 8mm bolt.

It's sunken into the caliper so a spanner is useless.

It's got a hose attached so a socket is useless.

Is there a special tool for undoing this?

Alas no good, they only give instructions for shortening the hose, which only involves disconnecting the lever not caliper.

Disconnect the lever and thread the hose through a ring spanner?

l.e. Apparently there are split ring spanners as well, but they seem a bit too thick: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xsplit+ring+spanne.TRS0&_nkw=split+ring+spanner&_sacat=0

Does totally removing the bleed bolt release a small cap that allows full access around the nut that you are on about? Looks like it may from that photo and seems the only logical way of it being assembled then bled after assembly.

looks the same as my MT2 - i just used an adjustable spanner. i certainly dont recall it being an issue when i swapped hoses. getting a banjo bolt long enough was the challenge.

My first approach was an adjustable spanner. I wore off a few edges and decided to stop before I made it any worse!

there is a flat hex on top of teh caliper under teh silver bit. you can only wind with an adjustable a tiny way due to teh recess. once it started undoing i think i could unwind by hand easily. I imagine they have a ring spanner to do up then fit lever end hose attachment to the hose after removing the ring spanner. the result is its a bit of a faff for us as lever hose-end thingie is bigger than the ring spanner required at the caliper.

if you go the banjo oute for aftermarket hoses then you need a long bolt. i think mine only have about 1 turn of thread as the thread starts quite a way in the caliper and banjo bolts are generally quite short. If you have a superstar kit it may not fit unless they have changed their advice/kit in the last 2-3 weeks.

Suggsey, alas no, the caliper is formed from two parts which join along the plane of the disc and the top doesn't come off.

Van Halen I hadn't thought the hose connector might be bigger than the hex? really?! That scuppers the plan of threading a socket onto the hose (which in any case would have to have a wider drive than socket or you'd get stuck on the drive end). 🙁

I'm trying to change caliper not hose by the way, so not intending to mess around with hose adaptors/olives/spiky bits or whatever they're called.

Well I solved this in the end 🙂 Van Halen was right, I [s]might as well jump[/s] can't thread a socket on as the connector thingy at the *lever* end won't fit through an 8mm hex.

An adjustable lever jaw wrench turned out to do the job. It could get a decent grip on the small amount of exposed nut in a way that an ordinary spanner just couldn't (to the point where the spanner was starting to wear the nut).

Cheers all.
