new build and couldnt get the indexing sorted, tried all sorts, it was shifting sweet on upshift but downshift was laggy. well after hours of faffing about i have worked it out.

I am using aligator i-link outers, alu sections that clip together with a plastic liner that runs the length of thye cable. well due to the new build (new frame) I had to buy a new inner cable as old was not long enough, got the only one my LBS had in stock. without even thinking there would be an issue. well there is..... its too thick!! it may well be fine for normal cable outer but not for the i-link liner and its sticking and not letting cable run smoothly through it!

will have to get another from another bike shop tomorrow so I can set up properly and ride on saturday.

wish I had realised sooner as I would have had sklightly more hair left now!! 👿

Ah, could be. I only ever use shimano and I'm pretty sure they (shimano) are all same dia.

More likely your liner is rucked - IME they are prone to walking up the cable towards the shifter where they stick. I'd check that.

Do the aligators not sit within an inner plastic sleeve that is shaped at one end to stop it sliding through the changer?
I seem to remember it not working as well if the plastic moves.

Ah right, that will be it ,they have thin wire to move through the liner .
Not had to change an inner on mine yet.
Great cable sets,I really like them.

It's a thinner cable.
You can use the inner from a snakeskin or mud lovers gear cable set if your pushed to find one.

well Ive got em indexed 🙂 i took the cable apart again and found a little extra of the liner to add on as it was a bit short, re assembled cable and they seem to click in almost perfectly bar a one second delay on one sprocket! i think i can live with that lol am sure with a 1.1mm cable it would fix that 1 second sprocket or perhaps a quarter turn of barrel will make me a happy man.
