Cutting a long story short, I've bought some XT cranks via PP off someone on here.
He was selling - after a flurry of emails I decided to buy.
TBF he said he would post them tomorrow but after asking him to confirm he'd received payment (it's gone from our PP to the address given) made over 24 hours ago he's gone very quiet on me - even after repeated emails to him. Just checked his STW history....that For Sale was his one and only post. Feeling a little pissed off right now. Hoping he comes good.

I had an..... Odd episode relating to the sale/wanted forum on here a day or 2 ago.
I won't go into it on here in case I'm just being paranoid but there are a few similarities to what you describe.
Did you happen to post a wanted ad for the cranks initially?

Any number of reasons he could of not got back to you.

If it was a purchase then I wouldn't worry, you should be covered by paypal if it's a scam
If it's the same bloke I spoke to he's over on Pinkbike too.
He mentioned collection preferred, perhaps a good sign?

Either he sends the stuff or he doesn't. If he doesn't you get your money back via PayPal dispute.

If something does arrive make sure it's the cranks before you sign, & not something weighing the same as some cranks.
But, if he's willing to have stuff collected he sounds ok.
He sounded honest enough through the emails I had from him. Looks like he's sold a bit on PB before so I wouldn't get too worried yet.
Update.
After reading some of the responses I felt more comfortable.
Nothing had arrived on Sat but I got an email asking if they'd arrived, and confirmation via PP they'd been sent.
Arrived today - nicely boxed and brand new as expected.
Email of thanks sent - happy days! Got 38 ring off but can I get the 22 off? Can I ****! What the hell to Shimano put them on with?!
Will pop to LBS with pack of choccy biccies to see if they'll loosen it with a decent torque wrench as mine is crap.
