Plenty of soapy water (think watery soap) for setting the bead. Get the bead set, then think about adding the stans fluid. Feel free to drop me an email if you need any advice at the time. Enjoy. Bike maintenance shouldn't be thought of as a chore.

I know, it should not be a chore, but with a family of 4 there is rather a lot of it to do....
Running into trouble already! I have superstar valves and superstar tactic rims. The valves don't seem to go into the hole very far, is the hole too small? And when I then remove the core the pump won't stay on, are the valves are not long enough, rims are quite deep? Perhaps I need the longer valves....
Shame as I was hoping to sort if today....

Do you mean there's not much valve showing on the inside spoke-side of the rim when you've inserted the valve? Don't understand the hole being too small: the valve will either fit through or it won't.

Easier to seat bead with valve core removed, more volume of air.
I found that with my Stans set-up with Presta valves, when I was trying to inflate using my track pump with the valve cores removed, it was better to use the Schrader pump head rather then the Presta head. It seemed to grip the valve more easily when the core's out.
p.s. In the end I had to use a CO2 inflator to get the tyre inflated and seated as I couldn't pump fast enough with the track pump. I used CO2 cartridges for a 29er even though these particular wheels were 26". Maybe the extra oomph of CO2 helped.
CO2 carts have been the only way I've seated them so far. Two track pumps and neither have done it. Though I understand some are higher volume than others.
If you use CO2, just use it to seat the rim. Deflate and add sealant after as the two don't mix. Pump back up with air.
If you're stuck with the valves, you could ghetto some from old tubes. Just cut the valves from old tubes leaving a small amount of rubber at the base. Then need an o-ring for the other side, or you can make one from more of the old tube. Needs sealant to keep it from leaking.
Use sealant. Lots of sealant. I use at least 3 cups full of Stans. Should be able to hear the stuff sloshing about when you shake the wheel, even months after applying.
Don't see the point of wasting CO2 cartridges inflating tyres (particularly when you the deflate them again afterwards) when there's options like the ghetto inflator that work very well...

I've been running tubeless for years, but earlier this year I couldn't get a non UST Conti Rubber Queen to seat. A pop bottle, a couple of old tubes and a piece of my spare track pump hose. Sorted.
Yeah, Kenny's correct. What I did was inflate the tyre with a CO2 cart, valve core removed. This seated both tyre beads, with diluted washing up liquid sprayed round the beads as a lube.
Then gently let the air out of the tyre by removing the CO2 inflator slowly (no valve cores, remember), tyre beads stay seated.
Then fill up with gunk using the Stans syringe thing.
Put the valve core back in.
Then pump back up manually, don't use CO2 again as it will cause the gunk to dry out immediately and become useless.

Far less faff than pumping like a sixties radio 1 DJ with a track pump.

Looking at your 1st pic. The tapered part of the black rubber should be seated in the hole, that makes the seal. It looks like you have made a small hole in the yellow tape and maybe pushed it through the hole. Look at the video from around 1.50 to make sure the hole in the tape is big enough
that valve isnt in enough.

I don't think the valve is in far enough, however it does not seem to push in any further just using my thumb.
Just took it out and hole in the tape looks fine.
The hole on the inside of the rim is 5.5mm, same size as the presta valve. Is it too small? Or do I just need to bash the valve in with something? perhaps stronger thumbs are required.....

Drilling the hole to make it bigger is obviously one option but id try using your thumb to squeeze the valve on to the rim as hard as you can then use the lock ring on the valve to hold it place...I've often found I need to do this on my rims to get a decent seal then I just let the sealant do the rest of the work

Its easy to make and no faff...mostly upcycling ( 😀 ) of old bits, the hardest part to making it is sourcing the correct diameter tubing, my local independent hardware store was good for this
did notice on another post on here that superstar valves also fit drilled out and schrader rims, so this would mean I wont be able to get them in as far in my presta rims?
Got husband for some brute force and ignorance (and a mallet), looks like they are in now!
