I'm thinking about heading over to havok at the weekend but I'm not much of a one for ride & repeat. I'll give it a couple of goes but unlikely to have the heart for more than that on any one track (and being as I don't [s] ride and repeat [/s] practice the blue/red are probably ample for me).

Eventually that brings me to my point...

I see a number of bridleways on the map in that neck of the woods so, assuming I'm parking at havok, can anyone recommend a bit of a loop to tie on to e.g. a morning there to make more of a day out of it?

Ta

Grand ta, that looks like just the thing.

Oh, I assume it's obvious but just on case it wasn't... Any advice on cafés also gratefully received.

The old havok woods still has trails that are rideable. The top half of the red run and bottom half of the black still go, and there are a couple of enduro style tracks on the western side of the woods. Also there is a handbuilt trail on the hill just to the west of havok on the other side of the clough although it'll be head high in bracken now. Also a decent trail down through the quarries from Height Top down into Cornholme.

The old havok woods

Am I right in thinking that's pretty much opposite side of the same valley?

it’ll be head high in bracken now

Pft, if I can navigate my "lawn" at the moment I can manage a few bits of 6' bracken

Yeah it's basically straight across the road from the new Havok. Have a look on the Strava heatmap, it's pretty obvious where the trails are.

I looked at that and thought, How in the world do you get down that in a minute and a half, then I saw Sam's name on it..

Just a warning that cock hill wood pt 1 is a monster in current conditions if it's what I think it is, it'll go but you'll need some commitment in the wet. Far harder than the others when wet IMO. I had the commitment but lacked the skills to pull it off a couple of weeks ago.

Healing vibes 😉

I'm hopeful a week of dry weather might actually happen and improve things a little

Think tod Cricket club takes vans. Other than that just find a quiet layby off the beaten track. No one will notice, the Calder Valley is full of itinerants living in vans and buses anyway 🙂
