My son has almost mastered his little 4 wheel Puky bike and I am looking at getting a balance bike. With that I feel its time for a helmet if I can get him to keep it on and maintain using the bike as enjoyable.
Looking for suggestions please, they seem to vary on price massively. BMX Piss pot ones seem to be the rage with the scooters and the kids I see with them on are wearing them properly. When ever I see kids with the traditional style helmets they are half hanging off, is this down to the cheaper retainment systems or just lazy parents?
Thanks
Trek/Bontrager do proper helmets for little kids with adult style straps and retention device.
My two both have them.
We tried a few on, found our son had a small/odd sized head.
Gyro fitted the bill for us.
Mine both wear Bell Factions, and I can vouch for their quality. My daughter went head first into a stone wall when she panicked going downhill and forgot about her brakes, it split the inner of the helmet in 2 but she walked away unscathed (put her off hill for a while). My son happened to be still wearing his when he fell backwards off the top step of the big slide at the park, again, came away fine. They fit well and come with differing thickness pads to use as they grow. I wouldn't put mine in anything else now
Spesh Smallfry are very good and have the same sort of internal cradle fit with ratchet knob on the back like the adult versions. Makes for a very good fit.
i bought my son a Bell Jumpstart helmet which he still just about use. the fit is excellent with the straps and the retention system.
it comes i a 48-53cm size and i think he is now just about 54cm. but its given him 4 years of good service. you can buy this helmet for £9.99 currently at Halfords.
my daughter has a Bell Bellino which is the same quality of fit.
