Lady not pedalling some sort of ebike with a top box through the park wearing full bike leathers ,full face crash helmet and a dayglo vest
I'm not expressing an opinion merely stating the facts.
That’s an electric motorbike or scooter.
It had push bike wheels and looked like a lady's shopping bike.
So calling it silliness is not an opinion?
Although it must have been a funny spectacle...
a dayglo vest
My piss is boiling at the thought.
Just yesterday I shouted at a lad for riding like a cock at 20+ mph on an electric moped down Chester greenway.
He was adamant it was an 'electric bike' clearly didn't understand the laws around them. What can you do though? I can't really think of a reasonable course of action.
Not this?

Although, to be fair, some of the earliest MTB races in Cali were on MX courses, and they too were laughable.
We're getting more and more illegal home conversions coming into the shop for repairs now - we don't touch them in case of future ramifications.
Recent favourites were a front wheel drive conversion that the owner said had been built by her boyfriend for her but she was too scared to ride. Could we make it safe or convert back to a normal bike. With her permission I took it home to test (I live on a farm so there are some private roaads) It was still accelerating at 40mph and being front wheel drive was utterly terrifying. It had a 2kw motor!
Then there was the dude who had put a petrol engine conversion on a Cona Cinder Cone. As ar as he was concerned it was fine to ride on the road as it was just a bicycle.
Despite the recent case of the woman being killed in London on an electric scooter and the publicity about how these things are illegal to ride on the road there are still some ebay sellers flogging these things sayings it's fine to use them on the roads.
A bit of a police crackdown is needed I think.
Not this?

I was expecting this too!!

Oh man, I didn't want to join this thread, but that video (OVER AN HOUR!) is hilarious.. and then.. dull (I didn't watch it all!) ...
We used to race on the mini MX course at Matchams in the 90s - it was great fun! A couple of times anyway.

If it was speed limited/under 250w though wouldn't it be allowable? (eyes up model aircraft engines, wonders about appropriate gearing)
oh my word
i think im going to sign up to the ebike world cup
Christ, that e-bike race is about as dull as an XC race round and round a muddy paddock.
That video is hilarious, and embarrassing. In the few seconds I could bear to watch- noticed that the yellow bike in the lead was accelerating without pedalling and commentator said it was capable of 80Kph unrestricted- er..so moped/ scooter/ crap motorbike whateveritis right?

That's cyclocross you are thinking of.
Isnt the UCI at war with the FIM over who can hold electric mountain bike races ?
I have seldom seen such unity in PB comments. Even more than that **** road gapping a race peloton.
Thanks for the link btw. Thanks to Pinkbike having a filter I may have missed that.

No, even limited like that it needs to be pedal assist, not just a throttle.

Some people would call this innovation. I'd call it a motorbike

Hmmmm MX tracks though.
Maybe if you have an ebike it'd be a good shout over a trail centre?
I mean just think about how many laps you could get into an hour! Everyone on the internet would be so impressed when you tell them how many you've done.
Don't worry about the MX bikes buzzing you I - its live and let live right?
Careful now, the Ebike Riders Protection Lobby will rise up to set us straight.
Even the body position on that thing shouts MX bike....so is he now World Champ Ebikerist? hmmm..aspirational.
Someone needs to invent a challenging format for the Ebikes- like first to the top of a big gnarly steep impossible mountain in the Alps then back down again...that could be interesting.

Don't worry, I'll do it.
FUN!!
Not LAZY!!
Erm, can ride with assist OFF!
and er
FUNNNN!!
In that race they should have to do 2 laps with no power. That would lead to lighter better bikes rather than motorbikes.

Take one to a race (or a not-a-race) ride it and mark them down by a few seconds for every whinge they get from someone?
Maybe 5 seconds for an in person comment, 10 for an actual moan about stereotypes of ebike(r)s. 20 if they were being a knob, 5 if the moan is on the internet feed?

Sort of like a reverse joker lap? Nice idea. Make it more important to balance power, weight and battery reserves.
Has an awesome weeks holiday in Holland this year, the cycle network as we all know is phenomenal, was embarrassed at just how much better it is than ours.
But the big surprise for me was the range of users, bikes, pedalecs, ebikes, petrol mopeds, electric mopeds, all going at different speeds, hardly a helmet in sight either.
And you know what? It works perfectly. Some of you lot would have kittens at the sight of it, some proper mouth frothing potential.
