Is it OK to run two slightly different wheels on one bike? For example, hubs are the same but rims are two different makes and one wheel would be tubeless, the other tubed. Big weight difference too.

As always, thanks from a confused c_g 🙂

I've known people to run heavier wheels on the back of their hardtail as the rear wheel take mores abuse than the front so its not unknown.

Won't cause any issues as long as the wheels are the same size.

Been running disc only 719 and a rim brake 719 for about 12 years and I've not died.

It's technically fine, but I'm having an OCD meltdown just thinking about it.

As long as valve/logo alignment is in order then everything else is fine

I am with HG - meltdown. Rims need to be the same or at least the same colour. If the logos don't match you should remove them.

But yes - it will be fine even if people refuse to ride with you on vanity and decency grounds!

If you're a female other riders never look at your wheels...

I only have two bikes with "matching" wheels and that's not really intentional...

I've got some shockingly mismatched combinations that would give the OCD crowd a bit of a shock I reckon:

My road bike has a Black Rigida on the front, White Omega on the rear and gopping Red tyres, looks great at the minute...
The SS has an old D521 on the front and an Alex DM17(?) on the rear with completely different hubs and tyres... Neither has exploded or killed me yet.

Ultimately they all ride about the same as any other bike would, so long as the wheels are round and fit in the frame & fork you'll be fine...

If it's a choice between going for a ride now with different wheels Vs Waiting until you have assembled an aesthetically acceptable bike?
I'd just go for a ride...

Cheers chaps and any chapesses. 🙂

Fortunately I don't give a stuff about how mismatched wheels look, more concerned about having a light-as-a-feather front wheel on a heavy bike that encourages me to go fast ... downhill. It could all end in tears but have had plenty of practice of that. 😳

It may be an interesting weekend ...

😆
