20 miles from home, based around the Hampshire / dorset border, not many hills, but loads of superb singletrack!

28 miles in 3 hours, and a million smiles 🙂

Not bad for an old, fat bloke on a ss !

Your 'today's ride story' is....

....an epic tale of hardship, endeavour, pain, sweat, grinding, spinning and speed.
Of a mental challenge so tough, the special forces actually banned it from their selection process.

I'm talking of course of a session in the shed; on the turbo 🙁
'Proper' bikes Forks are at Mojo so I was condemmed to the torture chamber without even wifi for company 🙁

did my 1st properish ride since injuring my shoulder, seemed ok,but dust had been replaced by mud and slippery wet rocks, not helped by the fact my bike has dry weather xc tyres on.

23 miles though, and shoulder feels ok

20 odd miles in the Peak District, two coffee stops, 1 bacon butty.

An Autumnal chill in the air, an occasional shower and that distinctive smell of Derbyshire.

Home, shower and roast dinner with my family. Priceless.

My cracking ride on Saturday was great, lots of singletrack around here, nice and dry, until the front wheel washed out, leaving me missing skin and cracking my thumb. No more mountain biking till it heals as I can't do trigger shifters, will have to use the roadie with the paddle shifters for the next few weeks.

He's a lurcher speed machine. Built for endurance too, given his carriage dog heritage. But lay down some rain and he waddles like a womble. It was a long, wet cycle.

33km around north Hampshire, just before it got blowy. Managed to feel tough all the way round, only to find I'd beaten almost all if my personal bests.
Big puddles but limited slime. Nice

Llandegla red, headed onto black at the diversion, rode all that then a hunch told me a trip through the woods and a fire road climb would take me to the red where the black started, it did so then completed the red.

Best of all, I was on my own, let down by two mates who haven't got the ability to stop drinking when in flow, they both failed to show up.

It gave me the ability to session a few bits and try different set ups on my relatively new (to me) Santa Cruz Blur LTc without disapproving looks.

Shame my rear pads died 3/4 of the way round. Had to finish on just the front brake, which was interesting.

Just did a sportive on my MTB. Thought I'd take a lifetime to get around with the big old 2.2 knobblies fitted.
But I'm actually chuffed and feeling not just proud of my ride, but actually big headed.
It was a roadie v MTB'er thread come to life, it was funny.

The school run has increased this term with an extra day each week, and a vast increase in ascent and distance (although probably still under 5 miles round trip)

With very little other riding at the moment, this short sharp fully laden trip, little and often, seems to be doing some good to my damaged knee.. The first positive sign in a long time 8)

You had to be there. One cheeky sod insisted that I was on the wrong route, and that I'd missed the turning for the short ride. Some took me as a challenge and one bloke actually took offence, and an ex club mate didn't believe I'd done the last climb, except I overtook his clubmates on it.
As a dyed in the wool roadie it was strange to see the mixed responses.

I only did a lowly but fast 6 miles on my road bike before work today. Generally try to sprint the whole lot and power up the hills! Last week I rode at Bike Park Wales which was incredible and one of those rides that reminds you why you started riding in the first place, so much fun!

Still not had the new bike out yet, so another go round the house. Stopped for a cup of tea and biscuit halfway through.
