cant understand the people that cannot ride the weirwolf drop, fair enough if you have just got into the sport, but some of the seasoned folk on here?!?!?! im not a brilliant rider by any stretch, but if you cant do that drop then imho you have little to no skillzzzz at all....it does piss me off that every one stands around and watch, like waiting for pople to fail and laugh....its just a roll in, its not even that steep...bizarre!
I was approaching this thread quite committed, without protection and found trolls lying all over it in my way. How can I get a clear run in at my own pace when some twunts have left poorly disguised comments just at the crucial apex? I would have owned it, but my flow was interrupted. I paid good money for this mac book and internet account.
That's not a threat, that's a promise!

I've reminded myself why I don't post here anymore
I paused yesterday to see if two riders were ok/needed a tube to be greeted with a look of I'd shat and smeared it into the blokes face.
Wow, this thread needs moar testosterone!
Really disappointed by some of the snobbery here.
The 'Cannock is over-crowded' comments always make me laugh. A car park and waymarked trail are not 'Cannock Chase', they're a very small part of it. There is loads of natural riding to be had, you don't need to download someone elses gpx file, or study google earth, you need to ride across the road and explore, and you may find a shit trail or a great trail or the best singletrack you've ever ridden but you won't be queuing and you probably won't die in a ditch. You might even get lost for a while, that's how a lot of the numpty trails got discovered in the first place.
There's always Wrexham folks!

Had you?
There are assholes in every walk of life so why should bike riding be any different....Can't see the point in sticking it on a forum to moan about though...... 😕
I don't really understand, or like these kinds of threads.
Aside from whether someone was in someone else's way or not, the whole bickering over whether you have the skillz or not, is lame.
Where are these people who don't have the technical ability supposed to go to get better? Hmmmm, how about a nice, well thought out, enjoyable route like the trails at Cannock? Oh, wait a minute you'll slow down all the speed demons & be laughed at as you try & get better. Great.
As for all the rubbish about unskilled people being undeserving of expensive bikes - what a load of nonsense. People can buy what they want.
I've got a Carbon framed Stumpjumper FSR. To buy it you'd be looking at about £3k. How much did I pay....? Hmmmm. Well, I bought an Elite that should have been £2200 but my LBS did me a deal and knocked the VAT off, so i got it for under £1900. Plus, I'd saved for ages to justify buying it and was replacing a 9 year old bike. Then the frame was warrantied and they upgraded it to the carbon for £50. So - my '£3000' blinged up bike actually cost me a little over £1900.....but you wouldn't know that while you judge me on it, mincing past you.....
FWIW, I was in the Peaks yesterday and saw lots of friendly riders, walkers & horsey riders too.... It was good to see large & small groups out and everyone seemed to be enjoying their day out. People holding gates open, chatting at the top of climbs, the bottom of descents etc.....lovely!
who cares, it's riding bikes not war.
Shouldn't you be occupying St Pauls? Damn hippy!
😉

Typical, over-specced mincer with yer dual processor, LCD-screened, flippin' wunder computer. There are more and more idiots like you cluttering up this forum. If you can't deal with the trolls either go somewhere else or MTFU. I'm still rockin' my green-screened, monochrome Amstrad PCW8256 on a 28.8 modem and keepin' it real. No anti-virus software neither. Pussy...
iDave speaks a lot of sense - Did 35 mile on the Chase Saturday morning, crossed paths with about a dozen other riders & only rode Upper & Lower Cliffs of the built stuff. It's a biggish place with a lot of stuff to find....
does piss me off that every one stands around and watch, like waiting for pople to fail and laugh....its just a roll in, its not even that steep...bizarre!
I've not witnessed this, do people really stand there and watch? Have they not been round the monkey section?
The black section is this video
although it does not look it in the video is quite a bit harder and your more likely to see someone fall off, there is almost proper drops.
Also the black section with the two rock gardens, go watch there, I fell of twice on the second/bigger rock garden before actually managing it (was going to slow, you need to fly down it lol)
There are 2 million people living within 30 kilometres of Cannock Chase, thats alot of differing gene pools cramming into just 14 miles of waymarked trails.
Heres a pic from yesterday taken on the Chase of the man responsible for bringing both the hatred and joy to the Chase.

This is pretty much all I have ever experience when out and about... I think there a lot of internet warriors about.
On that note I live close to the peaks, if you fancy heading out ever, I've not ridden there yet.
rode for six hours yesterday in stunning scenery and some very challenging terrain.. the only time anyone had to slow down was to wait for me to catch up..
admittedly there was a bit of argy bargy at the burger van between a couple of redsocks which raised a smile or two, but apart from that the only things getting in a mood were the Magpies and the Dor beetles.. 8)

He has a rudie plate 😳
100?
100? (threesome) A man and two girls?
Are you serious? You're moaning on the internet about something that happened in real life?
What kind of outcome were you expecting?
Him to reply and say "I'm ever so sorry for messing up your day, I'll never do it again. Oh, and by the way, I'm selling MY bike that I bought with MY money that has sod all to do with you"?
Who gives a shit what bike someone is riding. Who gives a shit if they're not very good compared to you. Compared to Danny Hart/Steve Peat/etc you look like a 3 year old on their first ride without stabilisers. Deal with it and get a life.
This place is an absolute joke [s]sometimes[/s] most of the time.
The only time I sat up and stared at the screen was a thread a couple of years(?) back when someone riding the wrong way on a trail punched an OP in the mouth when he'd objected.
Anyone remember that?
Thats out of order. As I said I asked a question and was stone-faced/grunted at and other riders had the bike on their line however we didn't post a topic about it! 😀
I've ridden round a Cannock as few time as the in-laws live within 30 mins driving.
I was trying out the Monkey trail for the first time and on the first section just after the skinny across the pond there were 3 riders in front. I wasn't in a hurry so just stayed behind them for a while. When the trail opened up to double track I asked if could squeeze by with a polite please at the end of the sentence.
I got silence back but the riders stayed on the left hand side of the doubletrack. So I took this as a signal to squeeze by as they knew as I was there and there was plenty of room. Speed was no more than walking speed as it was slightly uphill.
The rider at the back then moved over to the right and blocked me and put me into the bushes. There were no obstacles on the trail so I assume this was deliberate but gave him the benefit of the doubt and stayed behind until the fireroad.
Once on the fireroad the same ride then blocked me twice trying to get round.
Everyone else were happy to have a chat or respond to a cheery hello. The previous comment about 2mil people living within 30 mins of Cannock is the issue. More people = more chance of a negative situation.
Does aggressive clothing make you act more aggressively? maybe we could solve everything with the reintroduction of bula felt hats.

this.
if you want a bit of space then go to the long mynd or the peak or somewhere.
all this talk of skill compensators makes me laugh as well. like everyone making the comment is riding round off road on a road bike 🙄
Sooooooooooo glad I didnt take the missus to Cannock yesterday but went to the peaks. Judging by this thread you go along and ride your bike, stop, ride some more, stop, ride a little further then get your iphone out and bitch about someone who got in your way/didnt get in your way but looked like they were going to get in your way but didnt get in your way but potentially could have got in your way while you where in there way!
Or have I got this wrong meaning im in someones way
😀
steve you only get that if you follow the signs
Had a really nice day at cannock yesterday getting there good and early seems to be the key, hardly met anyone all the way round.
did meet some guy with his kid who could have only been about 4 or 5 that was doing really well. top parenting there!
How are people meant to get good enough unless they try and ride the trails?
The bottle neck areas like the werewolf drop (small ramp consisting of about 5 stones) could they not just build a 'ride around' so people can avoid it? they have in other areas?
people standing on the exits and entrances to the singletrack (often where it meets fire road) can be a pain in the arse.
I let people past and other people let me past sometimes...
Out on the chase for nearly 2.5 hours on saturday and saw 8 other bikes, 2 horse riders and 3 deer- must admit when we drove past Birches Valley car park it looked blummin busy!!

That's actually being planned at the moment, I believe. \o/
This thread has greatly brightened my morning 😀
Once I get the electric motor assist working on my mountain bike, Cannock will be on my list of trails that I will own.
I always thought people gathered around the tricky bits to see other people make more of a hash of it than they would?
I'm always amazed how 'empty' the Peaks looks of riders.
Yes you get a fair few on Jacobs etc - however 'a fair few' is absolutely nothing compared to 'hot spots' like the trail centres or other natural areas.
Yes miles per square foot etc but still
good new mrs toast!
wwaswas - if they're doing that surely blocking the obstacle isn't the best way to see how people do it?
hora - the wrong-way trail punch was at Swinley and yes I remember that thread too.
How am I supposed to know that you're just waiting for someone ahead to move on as opposed to having a fag break?
If you're sat either side of the trail, I'll ride right through you with a cheery hello, maybe I'll catch up a group on the trail, sit behind them and then pass if/when I can. Nobody has more or less right to be there than me, as I can't dictate to them, you can't dictate to me.
Errr, you're not, but should you just assume the worst that I am indeed an arsehole that thinks I own the place and can stop wherever I want and to hell with others? Personally though, I'm not that negative, I expect that most things have happened for a reason and it's not my place to question or interfere. If someone has stopped in front of me on a bit of singletrack at Cannock meaning I can't ride round them whist out on a Sunday ride, it's pretty near the bottom of my list of events that shaped my day. Call me a hippy, but I'm glad that everyone is out riding the trails, overbiked or not (its their prerogative, why judge?), slower than me, faster than me, it matters not... After all, they could have been wasting their afternoon sat watching Football, or the X Factor on TV!
I think you missed my point a little though DS, cos in essence I agree with you. At Cannock though, for those who haven't ridden there, on the Monkey trail there are a few bits of singletrack through the trees, where you couldn't pass at all really, and we had to stop and wait for a group in front of us at one of these points. No issue to me at all, but it clearly upset mr Ellsworth behind us.

**** him! It's his problem and he has two options. 😀
Just kidding 😉
Why is there so much bitchy infighting and inverse snobbery in mountain biking. Haven't found anywhere near the amount in road biking and fell / road running.
But then again maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
djglover i'll sum it up for you in one big swoop
people are dicks.
thanks for the insight.
I think quite a bit of it is down to jealousy.
i dont care what people ride as long as they have fun, i certainly dont mock peopel for having expensive bikes nor do i mock people for having low end bikes....
the only thing that annoys me at cannock especially at werewolf is people stood around waiting for people to fail, its not exactly the best place to regroup if your in a group, and its quiet off putting for people with lesser confidence on it etc...ive never come a cropper on it, as i said dont see the fuss with it, but its never going to help people have a go at it, if you get morons stood at the bottom watching, putting people off....
jealousy of bikes im sure is a major thing, if you have an expensive bike you are expected to be a world class rider by anyone who is quick and rides a cheaper bike....
half the people on this forum are jumped up dicks, imagine what they are like in the real world

I don't know if there really is in real life, most people I meet are sound. I

I'm lucky, .......I think.
I can tell a hardtail from a full susser, thats it. No idea on the cost of bikes I see - its a bike that's it. Means I cant have any pre-conceptions about people I meet. 😀
i think alot of the time people on this forum are probably the nicest folk you could meet in real life, ive yet to come across an arse in the real world, yet stick them behind a keyboard on a internet forum where courtesy, friendlyness, being a nice person do not need to apply.....im sure half of the usual tossbags on here would be genuinely nice in real life....
you will get some folk who think they own the trails as they are faster, and youll get some folk who think they can at a snail pace because they have a right to be there too...its all compromise, just try and be friendly and say hello, and try and pass slower riders in a nice way, or try and let faster riders pass you a bit more easily.....
Rob's got the best idea for dealing with muppets who dare to stop in front of him

Are the rest of us with Turners likely to get lynched on our next trip out to the Chase now? I shall be on my guard...
yes phiiiiiil... unfortunately that is the case I'm afraid..
I've already seen vigilante death squads being organised on other less savoury MTB forums..
your most sensible course of action would be to sell your turner immediately.. for a fraction of it's worth.. to someone who lives far from the chase and has no desire to visit a trail centre ever..
email in profile..
thanks.. 😉
