.... In Midsomer Murders.

A question though!

He was on rollers, giving it some.... and the murderer shoved a spanner into the front wheels spokes.

He then flew through the air, otb style.

Surely on rollers that wouldn't happen, as he had no forward momentum???

What do you think?

Sounds like the cyclist was at fault

Is this like the aeroplane on a treadmill question?

Should have got him with a car. £60 and 3 points. Sorted.

Is this one of those annoying Peloton adverts?

He wouldn't have gone anywhere. I've fallen of rollers before, you barely move.

Maybe the rollers were attached to a big flywheel.

Not needed. The planet is rotating already. The spanner stopped the globe...

I New a girl once that didn't believe the clouds were being blown around by wind. She was adamant that the clouds stayed still and the earth spins around them "like the moon"

Not entirely true. I fell off mine the first session and went sprawling over the wheelie bin I was using to help keep me upright and a few feet forwards then onto the ground. 😂

A bit of momentum in the front wheel. And some in the rollers, which will pull the front wheel back when the "brake" is applied. So the bike would get punted off the rollers backwards and the rear wheel would go up in the air a bit.

I feel we need a lab test of this to be sure. Sadly I only own a turbo, not rollers so can't help. Molgrips - you appear to own some rollers - take one for the team?

Good example of the difference between murder and attempted murder there - if the cyclist had survived, there's no way the latter charge would have stuck.

A spanner in the spokes is probably a charge of “careless maintenance” at most.

I think you would die. The back wheel drives the front roller, right? So if you stopped the front wheel suddenly, the front roller would propel you forward.. I watched this to get an idea

(on 2X speed, cos it's bloody boring)
At no time does dork (his words, not mine) touch his front brake - cos he'd go otb! And die!

Bike would indeed be projected backwards, simulating the same forces that would be present if you were moving.

The difference however, is it would only move 2 inches before it slips off the roller and stops dead, most probably preventing you from going over the bars - unless you were in some kind of Caleb Ewan extreme sprint position.
