After my very unfocused first look at new bikes I think I have decided I might like a shortish travel fs and stumbled across the rockstar Deore build at on one, which with a fork upgrade and dropper would give me change from 1600.
The rock star is a bit of an unknown quantity to me and in particular whether bearings are industry standard sizes etcr and if well enough built for a big ish bloke for out in the hills and odd trail centre trip
Any experience of owning? Am I better off going more mainstream?
I also have an eye open for deals on the Scott spark so if you have views on that interested too.
I know its a bit boring but the anthem 29er gets great reviews and is ment to be a great short travel trail bike.
I owned a titus carbon ftm which was great but did snap the rear seat stay onone where great and replaced hassle free.
As title very good condition, size 16" salsa spearfish frame, (ideal for 5'6"- 5'10") comes complete with hope headset, salsa q/r seatpost clamp, BB30 FSA carbon K force light 2x10 cranks running 27,39 rings, and sram BB30 bottom bracket with brand new bearings,(receipt to prove) the rear shock is a 4 month old 2015 rockshox monarch RT3, which has had about 5 rides
The frame is in very good condition with hardly a mark on it, this is due to very minimal usage, chainstays perfect as you will see (which is generally a good guide to how much use)
I'am wanting £475 posted or £450 collected (Huddersfield) for the lot, which I think is a bargin as the carbon cranks retail around the £400 mark alone!! email me at jonathantraverse@hotmail.co.uk
Ps for an extra £30 I can include X9 2x10 front mech and shifter
If this size is any good for you?? you could build up a really nice and light bike for a lot less than £1600
I have a v1 and I love it, it works well for the [ahem] larger gentleman 😳 as it's got a two inch stroke shock for its 100mm of travel giving a low leverage ratio so the shocks not working too hard, had mine for a few years now without any problems and the bearings are a normal size iirc, had it round trail centres and natural trails and it's a hoot!
Threaded bb and a tapered head tube make life easy as well,
Mines got 120mm forks which seem spot on to me,

I have a Med Rockstar frame with Chris King headset installed, both in great condition if you're interested in building up your own for a lot less than £1600 for a full build. It's a couple of yrs old with hardly any use. Can send pics if interested, just ping me an email to: woolymonster@hotmail.com
Could probably put a bike together too with everything I have spare 🙂
As for how it rides = Awesome, climbs amazingly and pretty capable on most things considering the geometry and travel. Loved mine, but it's not getting used so being ruthless with the extra stuff I have!
Thanks all. Just catching up on this.
@johnny thanks but would be to small
@ wooly thanks will scratch my head on build costs a bit before putting you to any trouble
No worries mate
Sorry couple more questions...
Has any one had experience of changing swingarm bearings? Is it a diy job to change or lbs job?
I am happy to drop money on tools if needed as I keep my kit a long time generally, which is also why I am wondering about ease of replacing.
Also is a 100mm fork with Qr likely to be a bit noodly? I have a nice mavic / hope 29r front (not 15mm friendly) that with a new rear would make a nice light wheelset butno point if it will make it like jelly on a plate..
