bikes been too long in the garage so trying to spruce it up and get out on it again.  its a singular gryphon, had ragly luxy flared drops on it and just stuck some j bars on to change things about a bit.  still got a fair way to go yet, looks like a spokes leaking on one of the wheels which will be a strip down, but for now ive been sorting the bars and brakes.

now the j bars are on and ive got some bar tape, im wondering whether id need a bit of comfort underneath the tape.  ive got some gel on the raglys but i think thats quite normal on drops.  what about j bars?

anything to recommend?  gel, just tape, or grips?

thanks

On my J bars and Jones loop bars I have silicone grips on the outside and bar tape on the inside, I only use the bartaped areas when I'm doing long road/ gravel climbs so it doesn't need much padding there.

These are Jeff Jones' instructions  http://blog.jonesbikes.com/wrapping-an-h-bar%C2%AE/

thanks.  a quick google suggests ESI silicone grips are the go-to grips these days, that sound right?

I use these on my Jones Loops. Might not be fashionably spendy but they do the job over looong rides.

I bar taped center of my Jones loops and I've just replaced my ESI grips which I found pretty terrible tbh for some ergon gc grips sans san ends.
