So I recently noticed that I had cracked my beloved titanium hardtail frame, it's all fixed now and mostly back together but as some old STW threads helped me get to the stage I'm now at I thought I would share my experiences as they may be useful for someone else and I know many members here live in Sheffield and South Yorkshire.

My options appeared to be;

-sell the frame spares / repairs and make it someone elses project
-send it away to a frame builder / repairer of which there are not many in the UK doing titanium; just the insured courier there and back would have likely cost circa £40 plus before the £50+ for the work at a guess
-dig around the internet for a local firm that were set up for titanium

I had it repaired by a local firm in Sheffield with decades of industrial experience, they are called JNC welding and they were very good value.

They dye tested and back purged and I am very happy with the appearance of the welds so hope to be back out on it soon.

It turned out that there were three different cracks!

Pictures and an overly wordy google review of them and my experience with them is on google if you're keen and search JNC welding, Im sorry I am not sure how to get pics on here.

J N C Welding Unit 10 - Enterprise Park, Worthing Road, Sheffield

I had no prior association with this firm and am making noise about how pleased I am because they far exceeded my expectations! I will definitely use them again the next time I need any sticky metal doing.

Classic Yorkshireman. Tight as....😂

Go on then. What did the local repair cost? I'd be surprised if it was less than £90

Well I live in Yorkshire but only moved here a few years ago.

Why send a frame off unnecessarily risking damage or loss if I could find a solution locally? Especially when a chunk of the cost would have been in courier costs?

If I had been unable to find a firm that I felt confident in locally I planned to contact Pat at Limit as he got a great writup on an old titanium repair post on here.

I won't be putting on the internet how much I paid for the repair, I'll only say in response to your comment that you would be very surprised!
