Tips for Thule Proride freezing?

Has anyone managed to take the mechanism apart and fill it with some waterproof grease or something.

I was looking forward to a nice frosty ride this morning but couldn't get it to move. After about 40 min of spraying de-icer and gt85 everywhere I got it freed up, not as bad as when you go somewhere or get home and the bike is frozen on the roof. And then just as I tried to drive off both rear brakes on the car have bound solid and couldn't get them to release, it's only -3 as well.

For the Thule, not the brakes, I just keep our rack and our other locks regularly sprayed internally with WD40. Iirc, WD stands for Water Dispersal.

Never had a problem with the Thule Proride.

Used them down to -10°C or so. Can't recall ever maintaining them either.

Are these stored outdoors/on the car?

Yep left on the car which I know will make things worse, but even when I used to take them off and on when not in use and keep indoors they'd freeze on after driving somewhere so never really seemed worthwhile if they're going to freeze anyway.

At least the car brakes are working, bit late to go biking now though.

It's been stipidly wet recently, so your rack is probably wery damp inside the mechanism, and the quick freeze and no time to dry has frozen everything.

Iirc the pro-ride is a roof carrier.  That's some human hosing needed (especially if you have a 4x4) and best make sure the windows are shut first. 😉

I’ve had this a few times. I’ve just forced the screw dial until it crunches the ice free. It felt like it might break something but so far it’s been fine. Have to leave the clamp in the ‘open’ position which I do anyway.

I’m on about the 593/591 racks.

Carry a lighter or blowtorch in the car?

Note: don't set the rack and/or your car on fire!
