Trying spds tomorrow, currently flat pedal rider more into xc type riding than anything tricky. Have borrowed a mates shoes and bought some shimano m530. Now have set them to loosest setting sat on bike in garage and already nearly fallen over. So any hints tips to get used to them and yes i know just ride etc but i am nervy about the attached feeling etc.

The real problems start after a week or so, when you forget about them, not when you're still concious they're there 🙂

Loose setting or not you just need to remember to turn your ankle out to release it soon becomes second nature .Just ride somewhere easy and quiet if on the road to start with

Don't.

But if you must, practise clipping and releasing on grass with both feet. Loads.

I loved them, my knees don't and I'm both happier and gnarlier on flats. Start with a neutral, central cleat position and adjust gradually from there.

I practiced for hours to get it into subconscious muscle memory in the living room balanced up against the sofa.

1. practice somewhere where its a soft landing

2. have them set at the loosest setting first & gradually tighten them up so they don't unclip when riding along

3. get a mate to capture your first fall still clipped in on camera for fb 😉

4. throw away the flats & go SPD only
