OK I can't see why I would buy one and not the other. The ranges seem to overlap and Time's website doesn't help me much.
Loking for a Time pedal to stick on the road bike when I'm commuting to ease the clip in-outness a opposed to the Look Keos (which I will still use on more serious road rides).
I want Time because I'll also use it on the mountain bike on occasion and Time is the combination of clipping ease and floaty knee friendliness that works best or me.
So is ROC or XS best and why?

Does noone know anything on this?
i dont have an exact answer for you but they all seem to me to be essentially the same but with either reduced weights or different materials in the build. The clip in mechanism is the same in each. I have a very old pair of ATAC Alu and still going fine - older pedals are easier to clip in to. I also have a pair of newish Z Control (as I like to clip out down hill because I like to put my foot on the pedal nearer the heel(that and I am scared and lack skill). I also could not work out the difference when looking at them .. they are easy to clip in to and the float is nice ... both mine work fine covered in mud. Any help?
I use XS on both road and offroad bikes and have for yearsm works well for me.
Thanks for the responses - not sure it helps me get to a decision but at least I know it's not just me.
I had a pair of the original grey plastic ATACs and they were still going until I bent the axle after about 10 years.
Then I tried Eggbeaters and Mallets, before settling on Z Controls for most of my off road riding (Shimano DX flats for the rest).
The ATAC mechanism is brilliant - simple, sheds mud, floats, kicking the pedal as you enter it both pushes mud out and positions the pedal properly to hook the front - just spot on.
Bizarely though I have found out that although the mechanisms look the same, they aren't. There's a blow up drawing on the Time website if you persevere. The ROC uses the original mechanism where the retention bar is part of the spring. The XS uses a pair of floating octagonal retention bars (one end of the octagon pokes out of each side of the pedal) and seperate springs.
Why? The original mechanism worked. Now they appear to have two products, about the same weight (material for material) covering roughly the same price points. It makes no sense and confses the buyer - ie me. I love French logic, it has a certain charm.
Oh well, I'll just pick a price and a weight and see which one that equates to.

Dont ROC's have a bigger platform?
I have Time Alium on one bike and Time ROC ATAC on another and I prefer the cheaper slightly heavier Aliums. The Aliums just seem to have a bit more float and clip in easier.
The Aliums are about 4 years old and still spinning sweetly.
The ROCs are supposed to shed mud a bit better. They also have metal plates either side which should reduce the problem I had with the bodies wearing under shoe contact allowing sideways wobble of my feet.
The round spring clip I also reckon is better as the octagonal ones wore quite quickly on my old XS's. I've been using ROCs for about 4 months and they are as good as XS's, and hopefully should last a bit longer.
