Soak in IPA, for a few minutes, give it a squeeze with a clean rag, repeat a couple of times and it should be much cleaner.
Soak in your lube of choice, reinstall.
Normally they should last the life of the wiper seal and you get replacement rings with your wiper seals.
You DO replace your wiper seals dont you?
If it's feels gritty after cleaning, bin it, they're only cheap. If it's not gritty, oil it up and use it again.
aye its proper gritty, new one on and seals order now, was quite shocked how bad they were.
