Anyone ridden them? How do they compare to an MX pedal - any benefits (other than bling...)?
I've managaged to kill a few MX pedals over the last couple of years - I've bent some springs dragging them over rocks climbing (can't replace springs on modern Time so a write off - luckily I did a left and then a right), and bent an axle smacking it into something descending (replaced with an axle from an old pair of XC pedals).
I can't see that these can be any tougher but the profile might mean they get smacked on less. Looking at a shoe mounted on the MX I'm not sure there's any more pedal/shoe contact (although the outside edge that your shoe rests on is the leading edge when reversed so mine have seen some wear). Pins on the front might give a lot more grip when clipped out (at the expense of ripped shins when pushing)
They look great but my god they're expensive! Running a couple of different vintage DH pedals from them, atacs ( meh ), and an old set of aliums ( wish they'd do those again ). Will see what's around when I eventually need to replace but can't see me stumping up for these at list.
German prices for Speciale 8's are in line with Mallets, HTs and similar prices at ~ 115EUR. Bigger version Speciale 12 is almost 200EUR and that is really expensive.
I'm hearing good things about Speciale 12s from usual pedal destroyers so I'm hoping the 8's are as good.
If anyone wants older style ATACS I found a bag full of them yesterday (K's switched to flats as i have on the commuter, I've fitted MXs). A set of Aliums in good conditon, a set of vgc ROC atacs plus various others.
Postage plus a beer or two if anyone wants some
