How do you stop that happening? Tried shoving a screwdriver in the groove of the insert, but it still spins.

Thought of trying to undo the bolts and loctiting the insert to hold it, but can't undo it either!

thanks muchly!

You can get a little tool especially for this problem. I don't know what it's called though. I'll have a look on the internet for you, nothing to do here today...

EDIT: beaten to it - seems others have nothing to do either! 😆

I've had good results with one of these:

available from a kitchen drawer near you.

I have found the Park chainring bolt spanner good for skinning knuckles which is why in my shop I use the Cyclus tool mostly as it keeps the skin on my knuckles where it belongs.

Here is a picture from the distributor

Quite by coincidence, mine suddenly decided to undo after months of being happy yesterday. By the time I noticed I'd lost one and the rest were hanging on.

DezB - oooh cutting! A mighty insult indeed......

In 25 years of bike fettling, the inserts have always just gripped and held rather than spinning - until Sunday - so never needed a tool before

nedrapier - I'll try your solution!

I just tend to hold them with a finger until they catch and tighten properly

I had this happen other day, I just held em still with a flat point screwdriver until they were reasonably tight, then took screwdriver out and torqued up.
