I am building some new wheels and having trouble with the nipples. The rims are dt swiss xm481 on 240s hubs, decided to use sapim cx ray spokes with the supplied dt squorx alu nipples.

Have got the wheels laced and ready to increase the tension on the spokes. However on a number of spokes the nipples will not tighten at all, they have all been greased. I have already managed to damage one spoke by trying to tighten it and this just resulted in the spoke twisting.

Has anyone else experienced this? or can offer any advice?

I don’t have an answer but am really curious on this one - I’ve got a set of xm481’s in the garage ready to go with the same nipples / phr washers (I assume you used the supplied washers?) and my plan is to buy DT Swiss competition dB spokes to build into the Hope pro 4 hubs I’ve also got. I’m going to soak all the nipples in a light oil before building.

yes used the PHR washers. the spokes are only going on a few threads before stopping so not bottoming out.

I think they are the right size as it’s only happening on about 12 of the 64

Don’t cx-ray spokes come in 2.0 on the end - in which case they should screw into the sqorx nipples ok.

Have you got a spare spoke / nipple not in the wheel so you could just check they screw in ok?
