I've bought one of those discounted GRX chainsets from Ribble. Fingers crossed it arrives this week. And yes, I should have asked this before!

Currently the bike is full Tiagra 4700 2x10 - shifters, mech, cassette, chain.

I am aware that the GRX is a 47mm chainline, rather than the Tiagra's 43.5mm.

Is this chainline difference an issue?
Am I still ok on Tiagra front mech and shifter?

Ideally uses a GRX mech which is designed for that chainline. Should be able to make it work though.

I have this set up. The mech is right on its limit but does work so you should be able to get it working. Might take a bit of fiddling.

That's what I hoped for! Thank you.

I have that crank and 4700 shifters, I swapped out my Tiagra front mech for the GRX one, in my opinion the GRX is much better made and works flawlessly with the shifters, for the relatively small outlay i'd personally upgrade, whether the Tiagra one works may depend on your frame.

I did this. It shifted but the mech was a top pull and rubbed against the tyre when on the top chainring.

Swapped for grx front mech and all worked fine.

it will work, but the trimming will be compromised due to the extra cable tension, you may well find that it rubs in certain gear combinations.

YMMV but it was annoying enough that I made the small extra investment in the GRX front mech.

To also ask - has anyone used a goatlink / extender on Tiagra 4700?

I am hoping to pop a 11-36 cassette on there with the new 46/30 GRX chainset.

The total capacity is spot on (41t) but the cassette capacity of Tiagra is 34...

If I can go to 36t I have a wide range 2x10 which is pretty much same range as a 3x10 or 3x9 touring set up - albeit with a few odd jumps in ratio.

Tiagra 4700 GS should work fine with 11-36. A mate used it on a CDF. I would try it before buying a goat link.

I ran my 4700 rear mech with 11-36 with no issues. Also with a GRX 2x chainset with 4700 front mech, again with no issues - although I was on GRX brifters, not Tiagra (but I don't think that would change anything).
