Anyone tried them?
I'm after some 'supple' bars for my rigid 29er. I've tried a few carbons (Syntace, Easton, Nukeproof) and they are fine but I was curious how ti bars compare in term sof flex, damping, that sort of thing.
Thomson, Rust, Sparta are the ones I've seen so far.
I had a pair of X-Lite ones from the 90s on a commuter and they were the most uncomfortable, stiffest bars I've ever ridden. I didn't even know bars could be uncomfortable until I got those.
Not sure how relevant that is to newer models though.
I have had Thomson ones, now on triple butted RUSTs which are the bees knees in comfort and weigh a shed load less than the much narrower Thomsons
Sparta bars look cool though heavier though less of a warranty/guarantee life
RUST bars are just perfect for me in all aspects of a handle bar
I have a pair of Rust Ti risers and a pair of Enve carbon risers.
Both are the same width, rise.
The of the two ti bars are definitely more flexible. As to whether flex = comfort I cannot be sure.
I think I prefer the carbon.
No wayyy seriously you prefer carbon bars.
I have had Enve Risers too but really find carbon bars mostly too stiff or far too flexy
Ti just right and do a great job at reducing trail
Buzz
Those Rust To bars look lovely. Shame they no longer exist.
Easton EC70s were too flexy by a country mile
Syntace were good though stiff
Enve were good though stiffer than wanting
However Easton EC90 iirc or EC70 monkeylites were wayyyyyy too stiff
Rust bars are seriously best bars I have ever owned and are seriously lightweight for a strong set ...
Fairly positive my RUST 780mm are 80 grams less than my old Thomson 730mm ti ones
@reggiegasket - if you can hold out or get a RUST bar - just do it !
Seriously best in the business
Someone I know rides Kingdom versions but they will be heavier and come with less of a warranty/guarantee crash replacement
Which make RUSTS far more appealing
Vgvfm imo over carbon bars
I have used carbon, ti and alu risers and flats on a rigid bike with 28c tyres inflated to a high PSI and I would say there is no noticeable difference between the materials and all that matters for comfort is whether the bar is the right width and the right shape (upward and backward angle)
cheers all
I agree the EC70 are the 'softest' bars I've ridden, and I really like them (I have some in the workshop). The only problem is they are flat, and I need a riser these days with my creaking physique.
Trust me I Noticed
How incredibly good for comfort, feel and lightweight the RUSTs truly are v g vfm
Just you wait till you get some or contact them for stock info
👍
Yes - Rust bars are the best i've ever had. Comfy, light and strong. Extra comfy for me as i run Revgrips on the hardtail as well.
From memory dont hold your breath them coming back in stock, i'm sure there were issues with the factory which led to a big redesign needed or change in factory. Like i say dont quote me but they have not been in stock for a long time.
Don’t get me wrong the Rust bars have a lovely feel to them but temporarily replacing them for the Enve bars has made obvious how much compliance there is from them.
I run a second pair of flat Rust bars on a rigid SS and in that instance the compliance is very welcome but oddly less obvious.
Horses and courses.
I’m waiting on a stem before putting the Rust riser bar back on.
Just get some Spank Vibrocore bars. Cheaper than carbon and way comfier than the carbon bars I’ve had (Burgtec and Hope). Never tried Ti bars to compare though.
I have a pair of flat Tortus Ti bars aswell, they are far more flexy than the Rust, they are on my wifes bike now. Too much so when pushing hard into corners. I find the Rust bar the perfect compromise, with all factors, esp. longevity (from memory the Rust bars were put through double the reps on the ISO/CEN tests and still past with flying colours) but more for the fact that if i crash i dont worry about the Ti bars, while with carbon once scratched i never trusted them fully.
I came from Raceface aluminium then sixc carbon bars, before that Easton ali and carbon when bars were narrow.
Exactly the RUSTs ones passed lots of testing and backed up with a very long 10 yr warranty & lifetime 40% crash replacement
Let's just 🙏 Robin gets more in stock as would buy these every time from here on out except for maybe DH rig
Tdog - i'm not quite as positive about the warranty/crash replacement and its the problem with a small company. Rust have been fantastic to deal with and talk to.
I think its super strong and wont be an issue for many many years and i wont worry after a crash like i would with carbon. But they have been out of stock for a long long time. So if you did need a crash replacement, you couldn't have one as they are not in stock. They aren't selling many products at the moment, so will they be around in 10 years to honour a warranty?
Again it doesnt really bother me as the product is superb, but its not the same kind of back up as you'd get from a big manafacturer
Good point although touch Ti I've more faith if shit hit the fan than carbon bars
