[Closed] Ti frame - do I have a problem??

Bought a titanium frame from the classifieds and when it arrived I noticed it had some marking/signs of possible repair on the drive side chain stay. It wasn't flagged up before I bought it. I asked the seller about it and he said it was due to chainsuck and he bought it like that. Is this going to cause me a problem? I'm a little peeved but don't really want to return it unless it is likely to cause me issues. Opinions welcomed...

I don't think chainsuck would cause that discolouration.

Unless you're desperately attached to it, I'd ship it back. It would bother me every time I rode it.

dunno if that would be a problem long term or not, but given the fragility of some ti frames it isn't something I would accept if it wasn't flagged up before the sale

Would not be happy with that.
If you used normal paypal flag up a dispute if they wont play ball.
Item not as described.

It's definitely had a TIG waved over it. Depends if it was properly purged during welding.

Seller should of mentioned, I'd either send back or expect a partial refund.

I thought any sort of blueing on titanium, no matter how slight, was evidence of oxidation, which significantly weakens the metal.

I may be wrong though, so I'd check my facts before I got in to an argument over it.

One thing that I'm absolutely sure of though, is that a crack through a weld really does significantly weaken the metal.

Looks like the repair was done by Vernon Barker, no one else could do a repair that badly 😯

That's a 456 isn't it? A bit of a shocker that - tbh there is plenty of evidence of chain suck there too but I doubt that was the reason to have to put the weld down. A bit of a mess all around and without mentioning the repair beforehand that's a no brainer return especially with the crack in the weld too.

What did it look like in the photos you saw before buying?

Don't want to say what frame it is as I don't want to shame the seller, yes I want a refund but if its handled properly then that's fair enough, its not ideal but mistakes are sometimes made.

As for photos, no real close ups, some general pics and a description, which has always served me well enough in the past but I guess you live and learn....

Though what does irk me was that I passed up the recent bargain Lynskey 456, which I had first shout at, for this.

Ouch - If I bought a frame like that and I wasn't told about it before the sale it would go straight back

Just out of interest is it repairable? As in 'properly' repairable?

That's sounds like it'd be more expensive than the frame is worth...

Maybe the seller could make a donation to restore it to it's advertised condition?

BTW if that's an early Hummer they were notorious for suffering chain suck damage due to low chainstay / chain ring clearance

Around £300-£350 I think .They've done repair work for me and their welding is brilliant .

Even if you paid PP gift, if it was misrepresented (a repaired bike frame isn't a normal sale) you should ask for your money back. Only yesterday I had to nudge a seller who omitted the dent in a frame in his description...

I paid with normal PayPal so should have no prob getting a refund regardless. Have opened a case.

I now definitely see the value of not using 'gift' though.
