Looking at repurposing a bike for a bit of road, gravel etc etc etc
I have two Thunderburt tyres that I've run on the back of two bikes.
Anyone run one on the front?
Not looking at anything gnarly, sick, or rad.
Seems to work for Lee Craigie and she is far gnarlier that I will ever be.
Thoughts?
I haven't, but i would for gravel.
Seems a perfect choice
I've been running Thunderburts front and back on my hard tail this year. I meant to change the front one after the Dirty Reiver but haven't bothered. It's been fine for things like the Capital Trail and Glentress. It can get a bit slippy on slick/loose surfaces (e.g. steep loose gravel, wet roots, light mud) but I just slow down a bit when I get to surfaces like that. When they wear out I'll probably just put new ones on.
I've got a pair on my Bokeh. Have been grippy enough on and around the Surrey Hills and down in Dorset. They seem reasonably hard wearing as well, I'll probably use them for Apulia Trail next year.
I like mine. Grippier than the tread would have you believe, I found.
I have but I swapped it for a WTB nine line which has a bit more bite, and rolls just as well on the front.
Nedrapier +1
Where they struggle is braking traction IME, can be a bit entertaining on the front, but a much more capable tyre than they deserve to be.
I ran them front and back - only got 2500 miles out of them. On Race Kings atm but progressing to Vittoria Mezcal as I want better puncture resistance.
