Debating a roof mount carrier this looks like it would suit as I run a plus bike and my other bike I swap between fat wheel and plus wheel up front. but should I be worried about wheel/forks anyone use one. Ta
I have just bought one as I have just bought a carbon frame bike.
Its quite a lump of a thing so I have taken to removing it from the bars when not needed but, so far, it’s been good.
Quite a clever way the two front hoops lock together to grab the wheel and while I thought my 2.35 tyre would be far too narrow for the profile of the hoop thing, it does feel to hold it ridigly.
Maybe it isn’t necessary for a carbon frame, coming from a Thule proride, but I’m happier knowing I’m not winding pressure into the frame.
By all means post up any questions.
Thanks sounds good,
what options for wheel sizing are listed on the front wheel bit. I know the back bit says up to 3 inch which will suit the rear of my bike but for the front I need it to fit 29erplus and 26fat. I think the front fits all wheels but I've seen listed an adapter for fat. But if it's only the rear tyre that needs the adapter then I'm fine as max rear I use is 2.8 27.5 or 2.4 29er.
Oh and does it use 2 lock barrels one to lock to bars and one for the cable lock
Thanks
RH79 If you have a slow puncture, do you think the clamping of the wheel will provide less hold and the bike will rattle about?
The front hoops do accommodate up to quite a large tyre and wheel, upto fat size I think.
The option appears to be the tray on the carrier, which is the same “girth”as the bog standard proride. This is the optional fat compatibility part i think.
The hoop, the bit that grips onto the tyre, is plenty wide enough for fat. I would have got my old motocross tyre into it! The fixed hoop is adjustable before putting the bike in. A pin and hole system locks it into various sizes that are marked on the hoop leg. The second part operates on a ratchet so is infinitely adjustable.
Lobby, I’ve not really thought about that problem. The ratchet mechanism that clamps the front wheel is very easy to tighten up so I’d imagine if this happened, I’d hear it, pull over and add a few clicks. I don’t think it would come out as they crossed hoopes are set at around the two o’clock and 10 o’clock position so the rim wouldn’t pull through. I did think I’d not be happy with it and anticipated using another ratchet strap around the wheel at the six o’clock position and around the channel but I don’t feel this is needed at all.
Sorry, regarding locks, there are two barrel locks. One fits in the cam lever to lock it to the bars and the other goes into the cable lock tucked into the end of the channel.
Many thanks mate
thanks for that- I think that's my next purchase.
