Hi. Hope someone can help me out here. I've recently changed my car. I've always had the thule roof mounted cycle carriers which I love. Sadly, my new car has roof rails that are wider/thicker than the ones on my old car. The clamps on the carriers don't span the roof bars. Does this mean I'll have to change my roof bars - or does anyone know if there's an adaptor that will allow me to use as is?

Any help, much appreciated.

By wider, I guess they are some kit of aero/wing design? I've never seen any of these that don't have a slot in for t-track mounting.

Should be able to change the feet/clamps.

You will have to change the footpack. There are no adapters.

You may have to change the bars as well depending on the width of the roof.

Thule roofracks have a strong secondhand market so will probably be able to offset the cost.

Go onto Thules website

You will certainly need new a new footpack. It will also tell you the width of the bars and if you need new ones

I know it's not clear as they mention rails, but i think they are talking about the carrier/bar interface not the rail/bar interface, as they say "clamps on the carriers don’t span the roof bars". I don't think foot packs are relevant here.

OP, can you post a picture? There seems to be some confusion as to what your problem actually is.

What's your old car?
What's your new car?
What model of bar, model of foot pack and model of bike carrier have you got?

I think the problem is not with the roof bars its the cycle rack. Thule does two kits for attaching the cycle racks to bars...T-rack or clamp. If you've already got a clamp setup and it's too narrow to work with the width of your bars then you might have to go with T-rack if your bars have a T-rack slot...which is actually better.
