I've been a dingbat and left the key for the roof mounted cycle carrier at home.

Will a screwdriver/knife and brute force open the lock to save me a 2 HR round trip?

Or will it potentially jam up and even with the key not open...

Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Ta

Do you know how to bump a lock? You can do it with anything that fits in the slot.

I've done it with another Thule key from a different lock. They're as basic as it gets.

If you've got access to any other Thule keys, try them. The locks aren't very fussy. They're also very easy to pick.

Brute force will probably work, but it's also likely to damage the plastic of the rack, and not just the lock, and it may be hard to extract the lock afterwards.

It doesn't and it's not*

It's one of the reasons that Thule locks are nothing more than an indicator the brackets not going to pop open.

They are comically easy to brute force using a flat screwdriver and the palm of your hand......

*Lost my keys to my rack. Took me longer to find a flathead screwdriv r than it did to pop the locks. Keys now live on the car keys for the vehicle the racks attached to

Success! Scary how easy that was with a couple of hairpins. I feel I might have a new career in the making...

I'll celebrate with a Guinness in a ropey glass..

They are bog standard small keys.  I found a Baileys Caravan key unlocked mine (may not be helpful!).
