How on earth do you get an mtb onto one of these things?

The clamps that hold onto the frames seem designed only for bikes with horizontal crossbars with a round cross section

They don't seem to accommodate MTBs with sloped crossbars, and funkier profiled tubes

Is there a mod I can do to the rack to accommodate sloping crossbars? Do I need of those fake crossbars? they look very I trustworthy.

Does anyone use these racks for an MTB? Bonus points if you have managed to get 2 bikes on to it

Don't the clampy things rotate to suit any angle of attachment? They do on similar racks ive used

If it's the same as the racks I just googled (942) it looks similar to my ten year old rack.

The frame clamps go on any shape tube and rotate 360 degrees so can cope with sloping top tubes. A good tip is to hold the clamp closed on the frame so you can feel the point it's the most closed, and then spin the handnut up snug.

Mine is a 3 bike rack and can cope with a two full sussers and a hardtail, and one was a huge ebike with a massive down tube. Droppers are really handy to avoid bar and saddle clashes

I also have a 4 bike Thule EuroClassic. Very very similar.

I attach mine to all sorts dependent on which bikes, in which jigsaw of pedals, bars and saddles clash. So the clamp could be under or over top tube, on seat post or seat tube of another. One bike the connector sits on the vertical carrier a-frame, not the horizontal top bit of the a frame.

Can you not wind the clamps out wider to accommodate odd tubes?
Thread the connector bar through the inner bikes frame etc.

Yep I sometimes put a larger bike on first so the short arm is almost vertical so the bike leans forward, last bike I've attached with the clamp on the rear seat stay once or twice where the stay comes past the seat tube, to increase the gap between bikes.

I assume most know this but the arms detached from the A frame so you can easily try a few positions without unthreading the bikes off the arms each time.

It's a very versatile rack, could just do with a tad more space between bikes

The clamps rotate around the arm (eg if the arm is held vertically, the clamps will rotate horizontally) but do not tilt at all, so seem to expec a perfectly horizontal crossbar or vertical seat tube.

The only way I can get any sort of angle is to position the clamp on the corner of the a-frame that it's attached to.

Perhaps it's a puzzle that I've not yet got my head around, as others seem to manage

Agree also that there isnt much room between bikes.

thule's video shows the end clamps rotating as well, have you tried loosening them off?

if the arm is perpendicular to the frame, surely this is all the adjustment you need?

if the arm is held vertically, the clamps will rotate horizontally

So if you hold the arm horizontally as it would normally be (roughly) the clamp will rotate 360 degrees to cope with a seat tube, level top tube, or sloping top tube?

But I don't think they need to - they clamp without it needing to be completely in contact - just 'pinch'....?

I had the same issue. Would fit no problem on bikes with round tubes but the new cube carbon thing I've got won't stay in the clamp and works loose. I've always clamped the bike from the top pushing down onto the top tube.

Simple solution was to rotate the clamp 180 degrees and clamp the top tube by pushing the clamp up to grab the top tube so the clamp is basically going the the triangle of the frame.

Works for me. Hope that makes sense 😬

this is what I fear! Is a nice rack apart from that point 🙂

Yes it does, this makes perfect sense. The bike i'm wrestling with is a cube carbon frame bike. I've been trying to get the clamp on in a horizontal position, because that is what fits the oval shape of the frame.
I'll try clamping from the top if the jaws open enough

if the arm is perpendicular to the frame, surely this is all the adjustment you need?

probably is if I retry using the advice on this thread.

Thanks all
