Has anybody yet had to put a new 2019 Santa Cruz Bronson or 5010 onto their car roof using a Thule 591 bike carrier.

The reason I ask is that the new SC bikes have a much wider BB / down tube than the previous model and its something that I will have to factor in.

Have you considered swapping the 591 ProRide for a 599 Upride? I've just swapped one of my 591s, specifically to take my plastic bikes as I'm concerned about long-term damage to the frames.

Cracking piece of kit - really easy to load and I am much happier now I know that I won't be clamping the frame on my expensive bikes! Only downside is that it's twice the price of a 591 and a fair bit heavier too.

Not an SC but my plastic bike has very wide down tube and the 591 arm works fairly well there. I have put some frame tape for protection where to arm grips

Anyway I have been looking at 598 for extra safety (the finger in the frame arm makes sense) and because 591 wheel holders don’t work so well with 2.6” and wider wheels. Have been using extra strap on front wheel to make it flop less on motorway speeds

I struggle with my alloy YT Capra, it's right on the end at the front and still pulls when i wind the clamp. The guys suggestions above seem like a good idea, if I had carbon, I'd do it.

Oh and if you do use a 591, consider the carbon frame protector adapter thingy thing from Thule. It's expensive (£12 iirc) but does its job with minimum faff and is worth it. You can see one still fastened on the frame of my Ridley in the photo above from when I was mucking with racks a few weeks back...
