I've just fitted 598 racks to my wingbar edge bars and have a bit of a problem. One of the bikes will only fit on the rack set up as stock from the shop as when its reversed it fouls the chain set so the other bike with a fat front tyre has to go on the flipped mechanism 598 I have but the fat adapter strap then fouls the body of the rack as it faces backwards. And it says in the instructions not to have the strap going towards the clamp body of the rack. One solution is to perhaps run both racks facing backwards (I think) Would that be ok on wingbars as the racks look wrong on backwards. I'm sure the track area is the strength part and thr wing is for show tbh. Hope that makes sense many thanks

I literally can't make sense of your paragraph.

Why does the chainset only foul when the 598 has been flipped?
Are you flipping it correctly? You actually need to take it apart to flip the mechanism, not just push the bar over and turn the rack

Once you flip the mechnism you also need to swap the wheel holders around too - thus the straps then will be correct

Ive seen loads of people run the racks with 1 forwards and 1 backwards, it looks stupid but I imagine it will be fine.

Thule are also good at replying to emails so may be able to assist.

DHS rider yeah done it properly but it fouls chainset as the chainset is then on the inner arm side of the carrier, and I've flipped the wheel straps but the fat adapter only fits one way unfortunately.
Like I say I think I've figured it out, I did mail thule yesterday but not heard anything. Cheers

Dhrider apologises looking at this thread i cant make sense of it lol in my defence I had on Wednesday been found collapsed at the side of the road during my long run training, hypoglycemia or dehydration they think but my head was still fuzzy last night and I shouldn't have been trying to fit bike racks in the sun.

Anyway upon looking again my bike on the rack set as normal will fit with fat adapter and my lads will fit if the rack is set as normal but facing the opposite direction
Thanks for trying to decipher it though haha

I recently drove a 200 mile round trip with one forward facing bike and one rear facing bike on Thule 598 racks on Thule Wing Bars. No issues at all
