I have Thule 561's on my roof rack for my bikes and the kids bike. My mate who has fallen in love with biking during lock down rides a Bird AM9 in XL and it's a huge bike. I'm struggling to fit this onto the rack as the rear tyre is right on the limit of the rack and the ratchet bracket is half on/off the rack. I made it work but when taking the bike off the rear bracket pinged off with the bike so not inspiring confidence.
Does anyone know a better solution for making XL bikes fit on a Thule 561. Cheers!
I think this is a bit of an issue with most XL/XXL 29ers, my Last has a wheelbase of 1300mm and it 'just' fits on a Thule 598 roof rack.
Could it be possible to get an adapter made to move the fork mounting position further forward? perhaps someone with a 3D printer could help?
Yakima Front loader is long enough (I have an XL AM9), I know this is a different rack, but they are very good and easy to use and perhaps sell the Thule?
In the past I've had to attach my bike with the front wheel off to fit.
Amy friend re riveted the plastic wheel mounts to extend them a bit.
Depending on how much room you have you might just have to replace. They were probably designed for a 26er.
Wait until you have an XL bike with 29er plus tyres!
I now have a 591 but started with the 561 - if the cables are long enough you can turn the fork through 180 degrees which gets you an extra few mms depending on offset - my Whyte has a 51 offset so it worked quite well. Otherwise its bite the bullet and move to a 591 or 598
