Just about to but some thule thule 591 but my mate says they mark the frame a little so seen the 561 where it clamps the front fork axle. These are obviously secure and don't mark the frame but has anyone tried them with there mtb and not a road bike are they as secure as 591 as they have the arm that attaches to.frame. Any user experience out there thanks in advance.
I have one of these from Pendle

Axle mounted carriers are a lot more stable. It's the reason I went with these over the Thule arm-type. I didn't like how much movement there was in the arms.
I still have a third older Thule in the middle (just in case I need to carry a third bike).
Oh, forgot to add, the bike sits a lot lower too so not as top heavy.
Been using one for ages now (well 2, one 15mm for mtb/cross, one qr for my road bikes) - been absolutely spot on. I really don't like the idea of clamping the downtube (or any tube) with a rack. I'd probably have a look at the 565 if buying now but haven't played around with one yet.
Use mine for the DH bike as the shock is in the way so it didnt fit the 591.
Bit ore of a pain than the 591, as you obviously have to remove front wheel, but very secure (20mm)
Excellent guys appreciated will look into the link you posted as well
My 591 has not marked any of my frames...
