Not long now...
Bring it on!
Who's in then? I'll be on a red/black S-Works Tricross, blue club kit.
I'm in. I might be on a Ragley Rodwell, if they're here in time.
I will have to learn to ride/crash without my trusty disc brakes though.
I'm really, really, really, really looking forward to this. Dunno why - it's hell!
Aye! Lets hope it stays fine and not windy.
I really don't want a wet and wild peaks.....ever!!
Who's going to win then? Or is this almost a forgone conclusion?
My ones to watch are.......(in no particular order)
Jebby (7 time winner)
Steve Bottomley (wily old campaigner)
Nick Craig (wily (not as old) campaigner)
Neal Crampton ( new kid on the block)
Chris Young ( flying at the moment)
Andy Peace ( peaks veteran)
Eek/Yay in equal amounts
(once again I've failed to prepare properly, which should make it interesting...)
iamin. Done a grand total of one off road ride on the cx bike so far. I *may* need to do some more...
I thought this was months ago...
simonfbarnes - MemberI thought this was months ago...
It was, 12 months ago more or less.
I will be riding. Black kinesis, red and grey team kit.
See you there.
I'll be there
I'll be there, bit worried as my plans to practise carrying my bike have not happened!
I will there, Empella Bonfire trying to keep up with Jebby ... Not.
I'll be there..
Waving as you all ride past..
I'm pit bitching for the lads from York Cycleworks..
Due to be, but 'unstraightened' my rear wheel on Sunday.
Advice for a decent (<£100) disc wheel?
I'm thinking XT/Open Pro?
This will be my first 3PX and though I've prepared quite well (ask my bent wheel) I've a feeling it's going to hurt - can't wait.
Just need to avoid the swine flu outbreak at work now.
should be there, 1st 3 peaks, black dolan i would imagine near the back

do you need extra time to dust off your annual 3 Peaks flamebait posts? 😉
karnali
YGM re lift.
I'll be there, black Genesis Vapour, behind karnali.
Is it jey to use pipe cladding?
Full respect 😀
Bought a cross bike a week ago and have so far only ridden it on the road - so should be interesting 😯
I'm going to concentrate on pipping MrSparkle at the finish as per usual 🙂
Seasoned 3 peaksters,
Is it worth fitting a mtb cassette for the race?
Is it jey to use pipe cladding?
god i hope not...last year I just used the survival bag you have to carry, this year I will be strapping the cushions from my sofa to the top tube 🙂
Seasoned 3 peaksters,
Is it worth fitting a mtb cassette for the race?
Nah, you'll be walking no matter what. I was fine with a compact chainset (50/34) and a 12-27t cassette last time
Seasoned 3 peaksters,

I did last year and it made a difference especially on PyG - there's a pic somewhere of me riding through a group of people walking/carrying their bikes. Just sorted the CX out for this year. New tyres, fitted the 12-34 cassette and cleaned/checked. So now my only excuse is myself rather than the bike...
I'm so excited. 😛
I'll be on a bright orange (borrowed) Salsa that is considerably better than me. Shall we all wear badges?
I woke up in the night thinking about the Three Peaks. Not scared, oh no. Oh and the difference between carrying with and without a bit of pipe lagging is astonishing.
Some waffle here... http://furiouscycling.blogspot.com/
I hear Jeremiah Bishop's going this year. That should be good!

So 38-28 won't be low enough?.
Maybe i should put the compact on ❓
I wanted to go to cheer on a club mate (he's quite handy - has finished in the top 15 before), but I have been formally barred byt Mrs North. Something to do with the race falling on my birthday and not being allowed to do cycling stuff on that day. WTF?
So 38-28 won't be low enough?.Maybe i should put the compact on
well, i was fine with 34/27 on the bits that were rideable, though i wasn't exactly spinning a high cadence...the unrideable bits are extremely unrideable, not matter what you've got on your bike 😀
34/27 is what I use normally, my usual CX riding is in the Peak District (and yes, it does most of what I'd do on a mountain bike!).
That gearing is generally OK, I can get out of Roych Clough on it for example.
Three Peaks however I really like having the 1:1 ratio. It's WAY lower than I'd normally consider but by PyG I'm normally WAY more f****** than I would be on any regular ride! Besides, riding is generally easier than walking/pushing/carrying plus it helps to demoralise my fellow competitors. 😉
Somebody pass the cheese to ourmaninthenorth!
Aaaanyhooooo........
Pipe lagging is a must have in my opinion.especially for when you're running down with the bike shouldered.
I've got a pad on the seat tube/top tube junction, a small bit half way down the down tube for my kidney area and a bigger bent bit behind the head tube junctions where my right arm comes through.(this took a right battering last year and was badly bruised!)
All I've got to do this week is change my bars as my super cool extra wide 46cm Salsa bell lap drops are outlawed apparently!
I'm going to concentrate on pipping MrSparkle at the finish as per usual
Set your sights higher, sonny... 🙂
I'm number 56 on the list!
415
New wheels ordered.
Only swine flu can stop me now.
I fear the onset of over excitement......
😯
look out for my mate with JD Cycles, just fnished 8th in End to end on isle of man, Stef Macina!!
What tyres are you all using ? think I will stick with the land cruisers ,if I can shke off the injury
Guessing too late to enter? 😆
re think on the bike no longer a black dolan but a mass of pipe lagging and some black stays, longish training ride saturday over whinlatter and a couple of other small hills nearby if anyone fancies it starting near cockermouth, but it won't be fast

Count me in, if your mrs will look after our kids (I'm single parent this W/E) 😉
I thought line choice was just for downhillas??[img] [/img]
I shall be there - spectating not participating. Likely to be cheering you on around the Ribblehead viaduct, best of luck folks.
Right I'm off to find some pipe lagging. Hope there's no frost . .

boxelder - who needs to man up and get the trailer out now
Has anyone asked if you can do this on an mtb yet??
Has anyone asked if you can do this on an mtb yet??
Nope, no mtb's allowed
Anyone know where I can buy the required orange survival bag ?
Anyone know where I can buy the required orange survival bag?
Most outdoorsy/camping type shops. There's a few places in Ingleton that sell them.
I'll be there too, Retrobike kit and orange bike
Anyone nervous yet?! Just sorted the bike, new brake cables and pads, oiled, cleaned, survival bag and pipe lagging attatched. Gels bought and whistle found. Ready to go i think?!
It may be my downfall but i am not taking the land cruisers this time, Hope i dont regret it, gosh it feels light without them as i remember they weigh a ton!
Get the landcruisers on its going to be dry and fast
Bone dry up there last weekend, it was lovely. Forecast is set to stay good. My CX is all prepped and good to go as well. I'm going to go for a short easy spin round the Peaks tomorrow morning, make sure it all holds together.
See you on the start line!
Good luck to everyone doing it.
I'm waiting for new wheels - promised by Sat lunchtime, via courier.... 😕
Will have to bodge something otherwise.
Excited.com
Nervous? I should say so!
I've been for a run today but rather longer than I intended! Never mind, I'll be sitting around all tomorrow. Must remember to buy some food.
So how was it? I was faster than last year and dont feel as tho i tried as hard. Maybe the tyres helped? Good day overall.
Oh t was great, there were cars abandoned all over the road and when we went from home to Settle at about 10:15 this morning there was a constant stream of cars driving like to$$ers down the wuiet road at the bottom of our lane.......
(ps did Rob Jeb win?)
C
No, Craigy won today.
Just got home and all I can say is "Owww"
Oh and obviously a top "Well done" to Nick Craig who beat Rob Jebb by only a few metres for his second win an amazing 17 years after his first win!
Good day out, but I just didn't have the legs for my target of sub 4hrs - haven't quite shaken a cold from the week before and I ended up at 4.09.53. Terrahawk passed me going up Whernside. Shaggy got the SS course record in well under 4hrs, top going.
Thanks to all the supporters, marshals, timekeeper folk, my long-suffering girlfriend who rode round offering support and waterbottles and of course John Rawnsley.
No thanks to the cockish drivers of a few of the support cars and to the motorcyclists who tried to overtake the bunch at the start.
full results anywhere?
cheers
god i love/hate that race! 🙂
Wife and I went and spectated...great event...there were numerous knobs on motorbikes who had to ride at 70 or 80 on the roads that had push bikes/support drivers and the usual Sunday doddery old codgers.
Well done NC on your win.
ChrisE
Grumpy, grumpy.
Can I still come and stay before next year? - you should do it, you'd love it.
p.s. there's more than one road from yours to Settle!
to the motorcyclists who tried to overtake the bunch at the start.
IDIOTS! Would holding back for five minutes really ruin their day.
Well done to Mr Sparkle, will have you next year! 🙂
'god i love/hate that race'
yes. I'm feeling that way myself.
so how did the Ragleys perform?
I think the motorbikes probably regretted entering the pack, They seemed to be stuck in there ages!
Shocked jebb didnt win but i heard a rumour he crashed injuring his shoulder early in the week, anyone else hear that?
Well done Nick and all that helped put the race on and who raced and completed it.
yeh well done everybody ,still cant descend on that bloody bike scares the shit out of me, I was coming down Pen-Y-Ghent and my hands just let go of the brakes and I went at warp speed before going over bars
Well done to Mr Sparkle, will have you next year!
Get training... 😆
The love/hate thang is going on for me too.
Went well here despite a few mechanical and physical issues. nice to see a few familiar faces from here and the Fell Runners forum.
yeah fab day. Well done Jase on a new bike. Thought I felt okay earlier but now I'm jiggered.
Shaggy's time was more like 3hrs apparently, he came flying down off Ingleborough at least 40 minutes before me according to Mrs Mocha.
Anyone else think Jebb looked like a sulky brat not shaking Nick Craigs hand on the podium? Just me then...
Who is this Shaggy?! Dont like him already!! 😀
Apparently Mr Jebb 'knackered' his shoulder at the national cx round last week, so was a bit underpar.
Sounds like a bit of a knob if he didnt shake Nick C's hand- you cant win them all!
Anyone else think Jebb looked like a sulky brat not shaking Nick Craigs hand on the podium?
Just you I suspect, Rob is the nicest bloke you'll ever hope to meet, I suspect he was probably just a bit gutted.
Well done all of you that rode today! I wasn't doing much cheering as I was under the weather with flu but after 4 days cooped up indoors I thought fresh air and bikes would do me good. Managed to mumble something at one of you Ragley riders about cowbells but I wasn't as enthusiastic as I usually am 🙂
Nice idea to follow the race on mountain bikes but those of you who decended amongst the main lot of riders from Blea Moor to the viaduct, you managed to get in the way.
Im not sure where this talk of anamosity between Rob and Nick comes from, it was all smiles and banter from where I was standing (did I mention that that just happened to be one step below Rob!)
And how many times, there is no single speed catagory - it'll only encourage them! ( I would do some kind of smiley thing here but I think its beyond me!) Im meand surely a geared CX bike is unsuitable enough for the course!
Looking at the state of "Shaggy" coming off Pen-y-Ghent, I doubt they'll be encouraged. A good ride from him though.
Had a great day out supporting our team and I'm looking forward to gathering together everyones stories. It's even tiring supporting, so racing must be totally knackering!
That hurt a lot. Honestly that's the hardest I've ever tried on a bike. I wouldn't advocate riding single speed there. I was intending to ride gears but couldn't afford to get the bike built in time. Next time!
I did 3:40:54. I wonder if gears can save me 11 mins...
Well done all!
Really good event, even from the back of the field (hats off to anyone who negotiated the greasy flagstones with regular rim wrecking drainage channels - or did the greasiness get worse later on after the passage of wheels?).
Major credit to the all for an extremely well organised and overwhelmingly friendly event, great that the prize giving was only held once everyone was back.
Now if I can only figure out how to ride downhill.....
I've raced national points downhills and it still scares me just how fast some guys can descend on cross bikes! Carbon is a lot stronger than we give it credit for!
Personally I'd like to say thanks to whoever it was that stopped when I binned it coming off Ingleborough. Wasn't sure wether to quit or carry on but I limped round.
Stiff, bruised and grazed today, but it could have been much worse.
I couldn't believe how mad it was, from the 600 strong peleton at the start to the blisters on my hands coming of PyG. Really enjoyed it though and big thanks to the organisers and supporters and marshals.
Once back on the road and heading to the finish I just put my head down and pedalled then some old fella came flying past and said "Hop on lad" then dragged me to the end! Summed up the atmosphere for me, that and chuckling at the commentator at the end "Lovely lady but I didn't get her number!" etc.
