Hello! I have been trying to get back into mountain biking again and picked myself up a second hand bike. Sadly before I have even properly used it the wheels were recently stolen and now when I was putting everything back together this evening I noticed the pedal was off.
So untightening it and I noticed this, basically the thread inside the arm is buggered, but the pedal thread is still perfect.
So any advice or is it a total replacement?

Take it to the LBS and see if they can re-tap the thread would be the best advice. Failing that you can in an emergency put the correct pedal in from the opposite side of the crank arm, if there are a few good threads left that is and use the pedal to re-thread it.
Sorry to hear about your travails.
Some used cranks from the classifieds?
That's humped, tapping is pointless as there's not enough metal left to tap.
You're 2 options are to replace or a helicoil repair.
I had a helicoil done on a crank once, it lasted a few months, I wouldn't do it again tbh. Was done by willy Bain, one of the best bike repairer in Scotland, tbf he tried to talk me out if it, but I asked him to try. Was 25 quid IIRC .
If it's the drive side and 170mm ht2 there's a spare in my garage you can have for free
