Anyone else had this? Left side upper link bolt was starting to unscrew so removed to check threadlocker. Right side was very difficult to remove, and was threaded.
Solutions? Re tap or helicoil?

Is it the bolt or the threads in the frame?

Threads in the frame.

Yes I have the same thing, well something very similar, the threads look old, I've been asked to get it tapped "The thread is 1mm and would be a M10 tap." - I have zero idea how this will really help but been too busy to get it sorted.

I assume yours is carbon too? Mines a 2015

Mines a carbon cc 2017. I guess I'll have to get it tapped as I can't get the bolt back in without too much torque. Don't want to force it.

Have you owned it since new?

Yes same here, Well I think if the tap doesn't fix it then hopefully the lifetime warranty kicks in 🙂

They won't let me buy the rear triangle on its own.

My intense used to do this too...

I took it into my lbs, they tapped it. The first 3 threads are gone forever, but there are 8 or so good threads after this.
Hopefully this will be enough.

Any idea how it became threaded? Have a similar vintage 5010, anything I need to keep an eye on?

@onecheshirecat aren't SC interested in the fault? or are they putting it down to maintenance?

No real idea how it happened. One was slightly loose when checking the bolts torque, so removed to add thread locker. The other side was very difficult to remove, and was impossible to get back in.
Santa Cruz just said to get it tapped. I'm not sure if I'm that happy riding it, but was told it would be fine without the first three threads.
I don't know that Santa Cruz want to warranty it.

if you are not happy with it just retapped ( and 8 turns on the thread should be plenty) then get a helicoil fitted

Mrs Devbrix 2015 5010 did exactly the same. Bought new pivot bolt and some thread lock and seemed to do the trick. Great bike by the way, better then later models IMHO, used to love to borrow it 😉

When did this “threaded” expression become a thing?
Surely it’s a stripped thread or else it’s cross-threaded.

Apologies for not using the correct term. I'm not an engineer of any sorts.

And thanks TJagain, a bit of reassurance about the 8 remaining threads is exactly what I wanted to hear

I had a 2015 Bronson which sounds like it did something similar. Went to remove top pivot axle one day to replace bearings. There was resistance removing it. Once out the thread on the axle 'looked flattered off a bit' as did the threads inside the frame.

I replaced the pivot axle but the same happened again. So this time I sourced a replacement rear triangle (I'd bought the bike second hand so no warrenty to claim on) and put fresh new pivot bolt in.

All went together fine. Next bearing replacement there was a small amount of resistance remove the pivot axle and again the threads 'looked worn'. I just put it back in this time. Next time I tried to remove the pivot axle it was stuck. Wouldn't undo more then 1/4 a turn.

A friend had something similar on his 5010 and his was warrantied by SC. If I was the original owner I would 100% be contacting SC.

I belive this wear/damage on the threads was caused by the frame twisting.

I did contact Santa Cruz. Was told to tap it. If it happens again, I guess I'll ask again.
