I'm talking about the ones with the extending piece that slides down to the chainstay to protect the shock as well. Does that extra piece just flop around and become really annoying really quickly? I'm thinking of cobbling 2 old ones together for next Winter otherwise.

Take a look at the SKS Mudrocker.
Looks better is qr and you can angle it. Mine makes no noise whatsoever.

No, pretty solid. I am finding, though, that it seems to dump more cack onto the chainstay/BB area compared to the old design. Given I'm on a hardtail frame I might take it off for a comparison. I wouldn't have bothered buying a new one if not for a 26">29" wheelsize change; the old one wasn't quite giving enough coverage on the larger wheel.

Have had that and the SKS Mudrocker and I have to say the Mudrocker is better, plus the optional extension is a good option. Note on the extension though to fix it as they say don't fit and forget the pin / zip tie or it will go missing and yes I did and yes it is now missing 🙁

I added a cut-down RRP ProGuard Rear to my Zefal RS75 for similar coverage, and found the same. Seems if the downwards flap doesn't reach right down to the chainstay, it deposits more mud not less.
