Removing, greasing and replacing my cleat bolts. Its given me a strange sense of achievement.
Do it on install with thicker grease or lanolin, no need to do it again.
Tesnioning my EBB.
Anoyingly this seems to require doing quite often at the moment despite going most of last year without any maintenace, can't decide if the EBB's slipping or its the new (clarks so probably cheep) chain on old sprockets that's bedding in.
Not bike related, but I finally tightened up & positioned the magnet for the door under the stairs so it stays shut...
i delaced my crash damaged wheel (the one that got destroyed when i was attacked by a mad woamn in a car), delaced an old front wheel and built the good rim onto the old rear hub.
it took me all of two hours and the new wheel runs to within .5mm vertical and is spot on horizontally. will have to take it out and give it some stick (DH rim) to see how well it holds up, but it was very satisfying to do.
nb. not the first wheel i have built, but prior to this i've only built non-dished front wheels.
Mowing the lawn.
Made even more satisfying by muting the nagging coming from inside the house.
ETA: Bike wise, building a bike from scratch. Doesn't take long with the right tools (and knowing where all the parts are) but feels good once done.
cleaning jockey wheels with a screwdriver lightly pressed against them and spinning the cranks.
Fitting a new front mech and getting it running sweetly.
Getting that wee wobble out of a wheel.
Cleaning out the pins on a hollow pin chain with a piece of wire...
teamslug that is a joke right?
I gain an immense sense of well being from polishing shoes, but then I do 'work' (ie: shuffle paper all day) in an open plan engineering office, so anything feels worthwhile compared to that.
cleaning jockey wheels with a screwdriver lightly pressed against them and spinning the cranks.
Winning so far.
I gain an immense sense of well being from polishing shoes,
Heh, I think it's something about the smell.
Hmm, feeling a nice glow from polishing the outer plate of an XTR front mech during my lunch brake. Mmmm shiny. 8)
Polishing up a White Industries hub.
Mmmmmmm, shiny, shiny!
Very very shiny! 8) 8) 8)
Taking something tarty and shiny, and covering it with mud.
Hanging up the washing. Don't ask me why, I just like it. Inside or out, I'm not bothered.
As for the bike, a well setup set of brakes (discs, Vs or dual-pull callipers) gives me immense pleasure.
I managed to drop the just-purchased allen key I needed to remove my lock-on grips down a gap in the decking...
...but then in a flash of inspiration, wrapped the ends of two kitchen skewers in gaffer tape with the sticky on the outside. Then, with the deftness of a brain surgeon, gently lifted the allen key to safety. Only took a hour.
Are you trying to tell me you don't own a magnet-on-a-stick?
I always find it satisfying to take get on a bike you've just built or where you've changed parts on the drivetrain or deep cleaned them and you are riding and the bike sounds particuarly quiet and lovely!
The job i hate most is changing saddles, i find it the most annoying thing in the world, trying to change it without completely undoing both bolts.
Taking something tarty and shiny, and covering it with mud.
And then making it shiny, shiny, shiny again, too! 🙂
+1 for wheel truing.
picked up a trax wheel truing stand from ribble for 32 quid.
Had a mess about on some old wheels and appear to be getting the hang of it.
Stripping wall paper.
When you lift a small edge then strip off a metre!
Repairing an inner tube with glue and patches.
Running a red light
*sprints for the door*
cleaning jockey wheels with a screwdriver lightly pressed against them and spinning the cranks.
This too, especially if you can get the grease/grime paste to come off in a single wiggly worm.
Degreasing and re-lubing the chain is nice and easy and gives me a certain shiny satisfaction.
Also stripping and cleaning the pawls and springs in a pro two hub - to replenish that nice fishing reel sound. Ahhh.
Another one for wheel truing, having to do it quite a lot with the combination of the potholed roads and cheap wheels. Good thing I like it then!
