Took my laddie up there yesterday for his first encounter with serious trails 😀, cycled from Galashiels. Didn’t realise it was currently closed for felling, western trails were ok but they have thinned the trees around Turbo Ferret, trail 95% intact but covered with branches and felling litter. Couple of places where the machines have mangled the actual trail.
Does anyone know if they are going to do the whole forest? Looks like trails should survive largely if they only thin the rest as well.

why are you taking your kid to the forests when they closed unless you are riding the roads?

I’ve seen people of FB etc out trailing the local area for hours at a time, velvety day. I’ve cycled seven miles on the road to a forest, what’s your problem? And why reply when you’ve got nothing to add to the actual topic?

Seen as a signs up saying that it's closed what makes you so special that you can ride it and the other person does bring something to it because he's pointing out to you that it's closed

Why would you go seeking out "serious trails" at this moment in time?

The Scottish Gov, Mountain Rescue, DMBiS et al are still fundamentally saying "choose a ride you have done before and know you are easily capable of riding it"

As a Tweed Valley local, I am absolutely frothing to get out and hit some decent trails. But that would be irresponsible to do so. Especially when you consider how many people spanner themselves on the trails round here.

plenty of people on my strava feed riding the golfie at the moment, perfect conditions for it and if i was local would be doing the same.

There’s some pious ****ers on this forum. I rode the trails as I didn’t know the forest was closed till I got there, after a seven mile cycle on an enduro bike on the road. There was obviously no forestry work going on so why shouldn’t I ride it? There are trails at Thornielee that aren’t that extreme (ie turbo ferret) and my son rides new trails at a very sedate speed, he’s no Danny Hart.

My post was to inform that there was felling going on and to ask if anyone knew the extent of it. Youse can eff off with the covid responsibility willie waving. I’m not Dominic Cummings!

2 different issues getting mixed up here methinks.
Surely if we ride in forestry when closed for felling we will end up banned from riding in forestry at all. Nothing to do with Covid restrictions!

It has nothing to do with covid or Cummings thorney has been shut since February to everybody because of the felling nothing more nothing less. I haven't ridden there since February and I would quite happily cycle there as I'm local as well.

I had no idea Thornielee was closed so rode there as I’ve already done Yair and Gala Hill to death in lockdown. Only rode the trails as I was already there. My post (again) was about the extent of the felling, not wanting or expecting a covid responsibility lecture.

Your done for now Spaceman... The forum Stasi have tasted blood and won't rest until you've confessed your crimes.

Wait for dark then see if you can make a run for it past the guard post...

If i turn up at Alton Towers and its closed do i get to go on the rides anyway?

Its irrelevant how long it took you to get there. If its closed its closed. And you make it more difficult for everyone locals and visitors alike.
