You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've decided to invest in a Thomson dropper post. Before I purchase has anybody had any problems with one of these? Also a few places are doing them for £234, does anybody know of anywhere that is doing them any cheaper? Need a 30.9mm
I have one and think its excellent. Far smoother than the Reverb and also looks better. No issues yet although early days with it.
I'm running two currently. I had a small problem with one after 6 months, it wouldn't return all the way up. Sent it back under warranty and got a brand new complete kit, including all cables, remote release etc, in a couple of days. I noticed that there was more to the replacement than the one I bought, for example it had a cable adjuster which my original didn't have. About the same time I bought another one from Merlin on a great deal but this was also without the adjuster. Reckon Thomson are constantly making minor improvements hence some stock being sold of cheaper. I didn't need to use the adjuster, no point. I have broken a KS Cobra, and two Joplins and wouldn't buy either again. I would certainly buy another Thomson. I have not experienced the two year service yet, but so far really impressed. I ride in Woburn sand once or twice a week.
A good friend of mine has one. It's great in that there's no play in it but she's not the best for keeping her bike clean. The return has become inconsistent in terms of speed. I reckon a quick clean and grease of the sliding elements would sort it out but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. I know the damper is sealed and factory service only but you'd think they're be a way in to clean the seal and bushes.
Mate has one and it's developed issues- which is OK, but the response from the distributor has been basically "That's a common fault, easy fix" which isn't that encouraging really!
What's the fault? More importantly, what's the fix?
Some issue with the bushings. Easy fix for them btw not my mate, back to base warranty job.
Be good to know what the fault is...mine seems fine mostly
Occasionally it doesn't go up all the way but I've found that the cable / mechanism to drop it can be quite sensitive and prone to dirt. Keep it clean and it's fine
Two here from last Sept with no issues.
I've had one for nearly a year, no problems so far. I prefer it to the Reverb which I had before which was not very reliable.
