I've always had a Thomson rigid offset/inline post. Now I think I want to upgrade to a dropper as it really does seem to be the norm nowadays. Are Thomson droppers as good as their rigid posts or should I be considering other options like a Reverb etc? I really want fit and forget to an extend. Outside expected routine maintenance I would prefer no hassle.

If you're 27.2, then you can't consider a Reverb anyway I'm afraid.
There are others though.

I've got one as the only option for an unusual frame (27.2 and large angle of adjustment needed).

Only used for steep Alps holidays (not in UK mud) but very nicely made and very smooth operation. No idea on long term durability in bad conditions.
