Christ it looks cold this weekend. I have been granted a rare whole day out on Sunday and I was fancying going up the Dark Peak. Forecast for Edale says -2 at 9am with the weather app saying 'feels like' -9. In fact it's going to flipping freezing everywhere, Cannock gives -1 with feels like -7. Degla says -2 feels like -8. What a great big pita! what to do what to do....

Freezing overnight could mean nice firm trails though.

I'll take it being a bit nippy over the current omnislop, ta.

I'm off to the Lakes on Sunday. Fancy Ullock Pike but it does sound awfully nippy.

Do you reckon the reason 'feels like' temp is so low will be because it will be windy?
The mud will be frozen and that is a bonus yes but coupled with possible ice in place of water on the descents and a biting wind the ride may not be all that enjoyable and may in fact be a bit of a trial.

Met Office site offers drop-down menu to select predicted wind speed and "feels like" temps.

Doesn't look windy, no.

from here: https://blog.metoffice.gov.uk/2012/02/15/what-is-feels-like-temperature/

We calculate a ‘feels like temperature by taking into account the expected air temperature, relative humidity and the strength of the wind at around 5 feet (the typical height of an human face) combined with our understanding of how heat is lost from the human body during cold and windy days.

I hate the cold. How did our ancestors live in these lands without glass, central heating or duvets? Life must have been very hard indeed.

Yep, I knew I shouldn't have posted my "what a lovely evening" thread.

It's been on the cards for a couple of weeks, it's still not certain, but with every passing day it becomes more-so (unless it changes) but that's weather for you.

Ironically it's caused by a rise in temps in the upper atmosphere causing high-pressure, 'The Express' as ever is bullshitting about a new ice age and snow, but it'll be the wind that you notice, Siberian gusts, good name for a band that!

Coldest temps (including the wind chill) in 6-7 years, if there's any moisture about it would snow, but there isn't.

Due (at the moment) to last a week or so, but on the plus side, when it ends the shift to Spring will be very pronounced!

Modern people are just soft. My central heating broke down a few years ago and I couldn't be arsed fitting the new pump I bought for it, so I lived without heating for about five years. It really wasn't so bad. I wore a hat indoors and a selection of warm clothes and relied a lot on elevated metabolism from riding and running, but you get used to it. On the plus side it made outside feel warmer simply because sometimes it actually was.

It was bad for relationships though...
