Something missing? I've extracted a few shocks from bikes in my time and can't recall ever seeing a bushing (spacer? cover?) one side and not the other. Maybe it was dropped at the factory? Or is it not that unusual?

Pretty sure you're missing a spacer there, often easily knocked off during assembly or removal (you have checked it's not under your fridge, haven't you)
Nah, I’m always dropping stuff, but no way could it have fallen off where I was working in the garage.
Will get on to Leisure Lakes tomorrow
Check this, so I sent those photos, explaining the missing part on Jun 25th.
Finally get a positive message today, telling me they are sending the missing part:

****ing brilliant
It's only to stop it moving side to side, i've got about 20 in different sizes in the shock container.
Yeah, but it's a brand new bike. Shouldn't have anything missing from the assembly!
I did suggest to them that I would source the part, I'd go to Offset who helped me with my son's bike, but they ignored that suggestion.
Well I'm utterly confused by that picture.
Which picture? There's 3 in my original post. And if you weren't sure what I meant by the bushing spacer and the pics, wouldn't you ask? Rather than just sending some random part?
Good spot though. I recently bought a new MTB from a large online supplier and due to horror stories I gave it a thorough check over - although not as thorough as you. I torqued all bolts but ten or so rides in I heard a clunking noise - turns out the reverse side of one of the bolts I'd torqued had in fact come loose, they weren't tightening onto each other somehow.
Which picture?
The most recent one, what is that?
Oh thats the bolt setup that holds the other end of the shock to the linkage (clevis, I think its called). . very similar to my son’s Meta SX in fact.
I sent them a bunch more (annotated) photos, so the right bit is on its way.
