Quite fun. After a 13 months of commuting 30 miles a day on a fixie I have finally got the roadie bug and started riding it on non-commuting days. I have treated myself to a Giant Defy 3 and blinking flip this thing is quick!!!! I had a proper cheesy grin on my face when I arrived at work today. Bring on the longer jaunts I say!!!!!!!!

Another one here loving the roadie at the momment. Haven't riden a Mountain Bike for over a month now.
Joined my LBS club to see what it was like and am now out 2/3 times a week with them.
It's also a great excuse to buy another bike. Will hopefully be taking delivery of a new Carbon Road Bike tomorrow. 😀

I'm having a great time on mine, helped in no small part by the fact that both by MTBs remain obstinately broken or just downright shonky, despite many ££s and time spent fixing them. The racer just glides along, asking only for a little oil on the chain once in a blue moon.

I worry its a slippery slope though, the more time I spend on the racer, the more sluggish and downright slow the MTBs feel, one day there may be no going back... 😕

Roads were built for cars.

Technicaly they were first built by the romans for pedestrians and horses.

The Romans got it wrong though - not enough bends.

It's good training, but it's dull as hell!

I don't find road riding dull. Living in the countryside I get nice views. Ok it's flat but nice views 😀

Roads were built for cars.

Have you seen some of the roads on the west coast? Traffic must have been the last thing on their minds...

it's dull as hell!

Wrong. Pedal harder or find some hills.

Not much singletrack...

You don't need it when you're travelling three times as fast down the aforementioned west coast single laners.

Frankly, I don't believe the doubters have given a good road bike a chance on some decent roads, they're like mountainbikes but without all the complicated crap that just slows you down then breaks. 8)

Not ridden the MTB since the Dyfi. It sits in the shed with a layer of filth and a race number splattered with mud.

The cross bike however is out daily clocking up the miles on the tarmac or trails. Even that hasn't seen the knoblie wheelset since the rain returned. Tomorrow night I'm doing my first crit, last month I got my race license and did 2 circuit races and I've shaved 5 minutes off my 10 mile TT time this season so far! Next up is a carbon race bike. Must. Go. Faster.

I used to be a doubter, but now after dabbling I embrace it. The speed is awesome, bombing along the roads is fun.

Not much singletrack...

Tons of single track roads around here - mostly really steep and with no cars + great views too 🙂

The speed to me is meaningless. 20mph on a wide flat smooth bit of tarmac is nowhere near as fast as 15mph on steep twisty singletrack.

it's dull as hell!
Wrong. Pedal harder or find some hills.

Well, I can do 10 miles in 25 minutes, and I live in South Wales. How hard would you like me to pedal and how many hills would you like me to ride? 🙂

Frankly, I don't believe the doubters have given a good road bike a chance on some decent roads

I ride a Kona Zing deluxe carbon fibre frame with Ultegra bits, and I've done plenty of Welsh classic mountains.

they're like mountainbikes but without all the complicated crap that just slows you down then breaks.

The complicated bits on my MTBs don't break, and 7" of suspension travel, big tyres and discs speed me up greatly on rocky descents, rather than slowing me down 🙂

Tons of single track roads around here

Single track roads and singletrack trails are totally different.

It's still duller than MTBing!

I think I like it too, but only if I'm completely on the limit, sweating my eyes out and unable to breathe. Trundling along at a "sensible" pace just doesn't do it for me.

Kona make a Carbon road bike now? I'd be interested in that as I love my Jake the Snake and I want a proper race machine with race geometry as well. Got details? the Zing Deluxe on the website is Alloy and comes with 105 not to mention being comfort/distance/audax geometry

Haha, touche Molgrips, you and I obviously just differ on our definition of 'dull'!

Maybe non-stop pedalling sounds or even is dull, but at the moment being able to just keep going, all day, with nothing to stop me, and nothing slowing me down except my own fitness, is bliss.

This might make more sense if you've seen some of my recent camping threads (summary: beautiful scenery, occasional good trails, many bogs)

😀

Road riding is great.. hours of puttling along, your never-ending MP3 player ( singing to yourself ), sight-seeing, sunshine on your skin, if we ever get any, and a silent, smooth running bike... ohh I also enjoy railing my patriot..

I've riden a road bike for the 2nd time ever today and enjoyed it. I've got a Wilier Izoard on loan for a week, its great and has Campagnolo Athena 11 speed, although my legs aren't quite upto the 23-12 cassette on the hills!
