My name is Ed Pratt, I’m an 19 year old from Somerset and next March I’m setting off on an 18,000 mile, round the world cycle ride - on a unicycle! My goal is to become the first person ever to officially circumnavigate the globe on one wheel.
Ok, which one of you is it? 😆
having tried to unicycle ... and failed ... I concur he's an utter nutter and so must be from here?
Cheers jekkyl, bookmarked for future visits, love stuff like this , always wished I`d had the balls to travel into the unknown under my own steam!!! Good luck and safe journey to Ed!!!
always wished I`d had the balls
he may have the balls now, but they will be long gone by the time he gets back...
Not to mention he'll have a biffin's bridge like a barber's strop.
He looks about 11 in that two year old photo.
Where do you carry all the kit you need to cycle around the world on a unicycle?
That rucksac wont hold much!

He has had panniers made, but I couldn't work out what they were being attached to. I suppose the fork legs...
bold but absolutely bonkers, can't be much faster than walking.
what a pratt.
Looks mental! Good luck to him.
Perhaps he'll use the bags he's collecting for.
Get the local kids to fill them with tents and food before he gets to them.

Boo boom tish 🙂
Cruising speed for a 36" unicycle is about 12mph so a little quicker than walking. Jai Caorthann rode around Ireland in 3 weeks doing about 50 miles a day. Those Aussies above took 11 weeks. Thats and average of 30 miles a day. If you can do that across the middle of Aus then go for it.bold but absolutely bonkers, can't be much faster than walking.
It's not me, nor is it anybody I know - though I do know somebody who started on a round the world attempt, but didn't get very far, mainly due to issues with carrying kit - he was using a rucksack and it gave him back problems. Already mentioned above by nick - I think he was supported when he rode around Ireland.

As said, it's a lot faster than walking - I can cruise faster than my flat out running speed on mine (which is slightly higher geared than a 36er, but in practice probably no faster).
What do we reckon then, two years to complete? Blooming bonkers.
I bet his parents are keen on the plan, a 19yr old young naive white guy travelling the world by himself unsupported on a funny looking wheel thing.
Two years sounds about right, it's about 29000 km if he can manage between 250 - 300 km a week he should be on target...
Reckon He's bitten off more than he realises though, fair play if he manages it though...
Hooray for middle class Circus nerds!

I'm hoping you're wrong, but Jai found it a big step up despite already having done 1000 miles around Ireland.
what tyre for said unicycle around the world ❓ 😀
36er narrows it down

😆
I used to have ideas like this when I was 19 🙂
It looks like he could shave a fair few miles off the journey by taking a short cut through Iran and Afghanistan.
