Is this a new feature of 12 speed?
Having a huge rear loop to snag?
It all works perfectly, but that loop?
Pushing the cable into the frame seems to have minimal effect and the angle into mech encourages this huge loop.
Any ideas?
Currently toying with a zip tie and a loop of plastic with gear cable threaded through, so it can move a little but be tucked in.
Thanks for your time and input. Wally.
Agreed, doesn't look right. Normally it'd come down the seatstay, and then (depending on mech) have a loop in the plane of the seatstay/ chainstay. Looks like the routing is under the BB, which is causing difficulties. I'd zip tie it!
Does seem like an overly big loop considering, but like said above, the fact the cable comes from underneath looks to be the reason.
I would also zip tie it to keep it out the way.
Don't know why Shimano mechs don't have the same routing as SRAM, such a stupid thing...

As above you might need to do some inventive zip tie use to get that looking neat.
Any chance the outer is just a bit twisted? Would also be looking to see if the routing just isn’t very good. Either way, no 12 speed doesn’t mean sticking out like that
Full length outer? If you you can push it along a bit and have the bug loop at the bars, better if they twist in a crash
I have always wondered why rear mechs dont have a swivelling mount for the cable - it would reduce drag and make it easier for different cable routes.
Yep, its not wrong. It could be trimmed a little shorter/tighter, or more likely its pulled through the stays and is a bigger loop than it should be for that reason, but yes in principle thats how it is with Shimano mechs - stickey-outey.
I would suggest it is because there is too much outer at that end, either push it through more if full length, or it needs shortening if not full length. When it is too long, it can't go 'up' anymore so it goes out.
I think it's just too long. Also, zip ties might be a bit crude, but they work. I'd shorten the outer and zip tie it to the chain stay to stop it snagging on stuff.
See if you can get hold of an old Avid rollamajig or a cog hog.
FWIW this is mine. Routing along the chainstay isn’t likely to be helping you

Another abandoned good(ish) idea.

Interesting how when shadow mechs first turned up at the tail end of 9spd the cable entry was forward to help slim down/minimise routing, yet it seems to have crept backwards for 12 speed but not regained the useful barrel adjuster...
I expect the next gen of Shimano mechs will magically slim down again...
Like this?
Not quite - the actual end of cable stop. It's as much about the change in angle as the mech 'folds' and moves left and right across the gear range - the cable exits the outer housing at really quite and angle.
If only someone invented the Cog Hog again.
nothing that a new frame, with different cable route, couldn't put right.
I would be shortening the cable and housing
