As above, used to use them a few years back but knee issues made me come off them, which ones as best for more float ? heard the Time mx was fairly decent for movement ?
For me Crank Brothers, use them for everything off road
Time are really good. Nice range of movement when clipped in and seem to last for ages, my oldest pair are close on 20 years now!

...and Shimano if you want to forget that you have them 🙂
Crank Bros have a softer clip in than Times which are a more positive clip in, both have great float and a similar release (Time a bit firmer but not much in it). Shimano are much more mechanical in terms of clip in & out. Shimano & Time for longevity. Crank Bros for looking good & failing both in terms of falling apart & can be prone to a rock contact bending the clip rendering one of the four clip in points unusable. I love Time.

Having owned several pairs over the years the reputation of the old ones does not belong to the new ones.
They have easily changable bearings and the design is much improved and stands up well.
More than happy to have them under my feet and performance wise I can live with an annual/18 month service interval.
My latest pair of Time pedals came with an 'easy release' cleat which seems to have an even shallower release angle. I run mine tight so can't see myself using it.
I've bent the springs on two Time pedals (luckily one left and one right) in the last 18 months so rock damage isn't limited to Crank Bros. (much more of a problem with newer bikes with low bottom brackets).

A bit of a dark horse but I’ve just popped my dmr v twins back on and am really liking them.
Shimano are so cheap, bombproof and last forever. I've never felt the need to try anything else. I have found though that clipless pedals are more forgiving on knees than flats, float is better and flats are so grippy my feet just dont move

and ritchey comp if you want all of this plus much lighter and still able to use shimano cleats.
I have a set of V-twins and the cleats are basically shimano but depending how you mount them you can vary the float. So Shimano longevity, simplicity and a couple more degrees of float! All round win.
Boardman mtb pro pedal. Uses spd, weighs less than XTR and costs £26.99
other than that, shimano
if you ride in the mud then crank brothers so you can clip in without taking a small stick with you.
used to use them a few years back but knee issues made me come off them,
Are the benefits of going back to clips worth risking your knee issues coming back?
Its really worth spending the time in setting up your cleats properly mimic your foot's natural position. A lot of knee problems with SPD type pedals stem from poorly angled cleats, whilst additional float will mitigate this, it doesn't really fix the issue.
